Hydroxyurea with iron supplements
Hi, well, I dont as I am way over the limit regarding iron but I was also told that "we" might have difficulties to absorb iron. But, if your doc says you need to take it, you do.
Hi there, think that would be one to ask your doc about, as it would depend very much on what your own particular situation is.

Hi, this needs to be discussed with your mpn specialist, some people have too much iron, some too little. Also Hydroxy can cause anaemia. I am on Hydroxy, Pegasys and slow release iron which is not working. When we increase Hydroxy my haemoglobin count goes even lower. So it's not a straightforward issue, have a chat with the doc. Good luck, F.
Hi, I take Hydroxi and am also on prescribed ferritin tablets for my low iron - prescribed by my consultant. As long as your haematologist prescribes or agrees with your gp that u need them then I would think it’s sensible
You absolutely must check with your haem before you do. Initially I was diagnosed with ET and was very low on iron. I was prescribed very small doses of iron supplements to see if that helped. My diagnosis was later changed to PV and I was immediately taken off iron supplements. I imagine your haem will want to do some iron studies if they haven’t already but this is definitely one to run by them before you start taking anything.
Hi, I’m on hydroxi. Yes you can take iron tablets as long as you heamo approves. I can’t, because my ferritin level is high. My body has plenty of iron but my haemoglobin in currently 102. It’s extremely important to discuss with your heamo. Too much iron is dangerous.
I have ET and take HU - 10/week. I am also anaemic so take iron tablets. The only ones I can take without upsetting my stomach is Pregaday, which is a bit weird but true.It hasn't 'cured' anaemia, but red cells/haemaglobin not falling any more
