Well, what a turn around! For what seems like an eternity, but is actually about 3 months, I have been plagued by fatigue and any meaningful walking has been limited to about 15 -20 minutes.
Today dawned with a bright blue sky, albeit a little chilly, and I was feeling better than I had for a long while, so my long suffering wife and I decided to attempt a walk at the MK Peace Pagoda. As it had been some time since we last visited, I had forgotten the 8 flights of steps up to the start of the walk, but in for a penny....... and to my utter amazement I shimmied up them without any problem at all. With confidence rising I then managed a 2hr walk without any breathlessness, tiredness or leg ache. Even more amazing is that 3 hours afterwards, I still feel great.
So what changed? I wish I knew!! Perhaps the platelet factory has downed tools for the day. I have not changed my drugs routine - same old hydroxy, clopidogrel etc, same diet / water intake. However yesterday I had a big slice of hugely calorific chocolate cake - could that be the answer? Purely in the interest of medical science I shall have another slice today. OK, so it's not really scientific, but it makes me happy.....
Hope you all had a good day too
John

Congratulations, John! What a wonderful story -- and what a day for you! Enjoy the chocolate cake. I believe in science, and replication of results is critical for proof of theory, so have another! In solidarity, I might have a piece of cake myself!
Seriously though -- it makes sense to me that doing something that gives you pleasure could have an impact on your physical abilities. And even if it doesn't, you still get the happy.
Well done you!! We do get occasional really good days....hope you don't suffer tomorrow! Perhaps we all need the recipe for that cake!! Long may you keep feeling better, gives us all hope.
It is the cake, I am certain it is the cake! Do eat more of it!
Delighted that you have had a welcome relief from the monotony of tiredness. This MPN thing is a strange and moody companion, and it does seem to have seasons of being clingy and demanding, grumpy and altogether disagreeable, then one morning it forgets to misbehave... and the sun comes out, and there is a feeling in the air that reminds me of the delightful passage in Kenneth Graham's "Wind in the Willows" where Mole abandons his Spring cleaning and joins Ratty on the river!
Good so glad you were able to enjoy life. The strange thing is I too have felt better recently despite a slight rise in platelets and almost triple dose in meds.
Someone recently posted that they think there could be a connection between fatigue and the size and shape of our platelets . I’m ETCalr
Love it John, and whatever makes us feel great, has gotta be ok, so maybe cake it is.More Cake !!.Well done on all you accomplishments in a day Marilyn x
Thank you so much for sharing your success. What a lovely picture and what an impressive start to your day.
Perhaps your determination and positive mind kicked in!!! Well done. I'm having the other type of day, so far. I shortened my walk and on my return home sprayed a dose of sublingual B complex. I'm sure it will. I'll switch on my positive brain and work with the 'B'. Today can only get better.
Delighted that you feel better. Well done and thank you for sharing. I am off in search of chocolate cake now, only because it obviously worked for you.
Hi John, I quite often tell people at the forums that on days when the fatigue is a bit bad, I know 2 brilliant chaps who make it all feel better, they are called Mr Ben and Mr Jerry (makers of excellent ice cream), oh and of course cake, preferably chocolate and then to follow, just more chocolate. Bad for me I know, but what the heck, it feels good. Maz x x x
Hi John, I live in MK with my husband, and I haven't been feeling well for the last few days and even worse today! So in the interests of science I might have to drag myself to the shops and buy some chocolate cake 😢 poor me!
