Hello Mpn friends I’m looking to do a cycling holiday next year and noticed a lot require doctors sign off has anyone else had an experience of this with Pv or similar. I’m in good shape and cycle about 50-80 miles a week. So can’t see how my Pv would affect me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jasbak66. I go on at least two cycling holidays every year this year the DORDOGNE and Alsace next year two tours of Germany. I cycle at least 80 miles every week. I have PV JAK2 and have never had any problem and never been asked for doctors sign off. I also have full holiday insurance which has never been a problem.

Hi Heather I was looking at The Haute Route or something similar potentially quite mountainous. Thanks for your reply I’m Jak2 also.

Good luck. I have cycled The Pyrenees, Ventoux and Alpe d'Hyez all wonderful experiences. My one piece of advice is to keep well hydrated absolutely essential with our condition.

Thanks Heather did you do all those rides with PV? I always carry two bottles and sip regularly.

No not Ventoux and Alpe d'Hyez although I had PV for some years before it was properly diagnosed.

Just to warn you most GPs have now been advised to decline to complete sporting medical forms etc as can't rule out cardiac issues without a treadmill ECG so you may need to get in touch with a sports medicine specialist. Hopefully you won't need form signing but from litigation side of things GPs are more wary to complete things whatever the condition maybe, I'm afraid. I hope you manage to get sorted to enjoy the holiday.
