Hi,

Hope you're all keeping well.

I'm having a red cell mass test at Guys on monday & wondered how long results take? Will I know anything the same day?

Thankyou x

Hi Vicky, I’m not bad thanks. Just going through a re-diagnosis so a little bit of up and down while waiting for results but they will be what they are going to be!

I honestly can’t remember how long it took for results to come back from red cell mass test, I definitely wasn’t told on the day but it was certainly weeks and not months before I knew. Apart from a few blood tests, it’s not a painful procedure or anything like that so I’m sure you will be fine and at least you will find out whether you have too many red blood cells as a percentage of the total blood volume including plasma. Hope that makes sense, take care Aime xx😸😸let me know how you get on.

Thankyou.

Has your condition changed or were you mis diagnosed?

I have been trying to get a diagnosis since january. Local hospital have referred me to Guys now so hopefully I'll know soon. I've had lots of genetic tests done & get the result in January. I'm jak2 neg but thats all I know!

I'm not really sure how the red cell mass test is different to the red cell result you get in a normal full blood count test. All so confusing! X

Hi Vicky, haven’t got my final diagnosis yet but if it continues the way it’s going, it sounds like a misdiagnosis but will know better after 19 November. Hope you get all your results ASAP. Aimexx😸😸

Hi Vicky I’m at Guys today what time is ur appointment mine is 2:00 with Claire. Would be nice to meet up if you’d like to. I have chronic neotrophilic leaukemia high white blood cells. I needed a bone marrow biopsy before I got my results so not sure how long you would wait for yours but good luck anyway.

Hi Vicky I got there about 11:45 and asked if it was possible to be seen earlier but they were very busy. I did have my bloods done then but came back at 1:30 didn’t actually see Claire she had to attend a meeting. I saw another on her team she was very nice my white cells are pretty stable at the moment but my red cells a bit down so had some more bloods taken. I left around 3:00 and they will contact me if I need any other meds. I traveled from Liverpool so it’s been a long day 4 trains to get there. Where do you live? Did you find out when you get your results? Hope they come back ok.

Brenda

Maybe we’ll try and meet up again sometime

That's a long way to travel! I live near the essex/suffolk border so only about 2 hours by train. I was in the nuclear medicine department all the time. They said the results will be with prof harrison in a week. I'm not due to see her until January but I suppose she will call if need be before then. I hope your results are all good xx
