Hi. I am new here and on day 5 with hydroxyurea. Does the nausea ever get better?

hi doglover57, welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear you are feeling unwell with the hydroxyurea, it should start to settle down in the next few days as your system adjusts to it, however, if it persists then you should speak to your doctor, they may be able to prescribe something to help with the feeling of nausea. Best wishes, Maz

Hi. When I eas started on hydroxyurea I was given some anti nausea medication in case it made me feel sick ( it didn’t, actually) and advised to take it in the evenimg. So there are things that can help , but do ask your dotctor. No need to suffer unnecessarily. Take care, and its great that you've found this forum.

All the best

Thank you. I will try some different times taking it and see if it helps. Thanks again, Julie

When I first started hydroxyurea, I experienced some minor nausea. I started taking at night, and eating a few saltines or graham crackers right before the pill. This eliminated the bed-spinning, nausea. After about a month, I tried eliminating my bedtime snack, and that was successful. Unless your doctor has said otherwise, you may want to experiment with the time of day you take the medication, both because of the nausea and to see if it makes a difference in fatigue.

Best wishes,

Andy

The nausea does settle down. I’ve taken it for 11 years, sometimes I do have a off morning but it goes.

I take my tablets in the morning.

I think it’s finding the best time for your self. Like Max said you can get something off your doctor to help.

I hope you feel better soon

My nausea went away after a while. I found sea-sickness wrist bands a great help in the initial stages. Were all different but maybe worth a try. At least if it works it avoids taking another medication

Best wishes, Jan

Welcome! So sorry you are feeling so unwell. I’m on 17 tablets a week of hydroxicarbomide and I’ve never suffered from nausea. We are all different. Maybe when your platelets are down and stable your dosage can be reduced. That might help. I do hope it’s temporary.

Good luck.
