Go9d evening. My husband and I are abroad in a small town. He has PV jak2 pos and was bitten by some type of insect yesterday. His hand has blown right up. We went to pharmacy who gave him antihystimene steroid cream but it's not doing anything. Doctor seems to be non existent around here. I am worried that it would cause a clot or something. Any advice until we can hopefully find a medical.person who understands what PV is and can treat him accordingly.
Thank you

Can you get antihistamine tablets ? It's ok to take them with P V,I take them,we do seem to react badly to insect bites,I don't know where you are but insects in foreign places can be nasty.Good Luck finding a good pharmacist or Dr.Ice is good for swellings ,what about a local hospital,Urgence dept.Best wishes.
I was bitten in Italy a few years ago (before ET diagnosis) and had a similar reaction to your husband. Fortunately, there was a hospital in the town; I was given a cortisone shot and a course of antibiotics. I suspect your hubby may need same treatment.
Hi, I got bitten last year here in the UK, not sure what it was, but it also was by a small cyst that I had, unfortunately the bite became badly infected and spread to the cyst, I did not seek medical advice quickly enough tried to treat with bite cream, and unfortunately be time I did see a doctor the bite and cyst had burst causing me untold problems, had to go on two lots of antibiotics, the bite and cyst had to be drained, had a high fever and felt really unwell for quite a few days. Doc said that as I had ET this impacted in the bite. So try and seek medical help sooner rather than later.
Hi,If You can see the Sting, use Tweezers and gently pull it out, I normally then squeeze Where Sting Was,Hopefully some puss will come out, I apply White Vinegar which stops a lot of Stinging.Works For Me,Good Luck.
Thankyou so much for replying in detail. Will definitely use vinegar for bites. So easy to fill a little bottle and carry. Always forgetting bite cream. As for Avon for prevention, afraid it doesn’t work on me😒. Only deet!
I can really empathise with you and your husband. I have always had a similar reaction to mozzie and other insect bites even before PV diagnosis. It seems to get worse year by year. I have regularly had to seek medical assistance. You have not said whether you are in Europe or not. If so find a medical centre and use your EHIC card. Otherwise, if you have insurance, that will cover you in other countries. In May this year, I had 9 bites at one time and had to go to a medical centre in Portugal. Baring my bottom for an injection with the door open into the waiting area and retaining my dignity was nothing compared to the awful itch and swelling. I have a shelf full of various half used creams obtained while on holiday. Wherever you are please seek out medical care. Also, if using cortisone cream, please be extra careful in the sunshine. Best wishes
Hi scousesbird, please insist on hospital advice. I visited Brazil in 2013 bite free, came back to Scotland, got bitten by? and ended up very ill in hospital on a drip with antibiotics. I had noticed the bite area getting redder and expanding but didn’t think a Scottish bite would cause urgency but I soon learned my mistake. I really thought my last days had come - I felt so ill. I ended up on 2 lots of different antibiotics when I got home which then upset all the bacteria in my gut so had to come off them. I was off my work nearly three weeks so please seek appropriate medical help ASAP.
Wishing your hubby a quick recovery so you can enjoy your holiday,
