FUND RAISING FOR MPN VOICE - a free weekend in the Lakes.

Morning all!

So, who's up for a weekend in the Lakes all accommodation, transport ( except travelling to and from the Lakes ) and food ( with exception of any pub lunches provided - but more likely to be picnic anyway!) included?

The only proviso is that EACH person staying raises at least £150 for MPN voice ( total at least £300 per room occupied please - but it's easy to raise more believe me) by asking family and friends to sponsor you in an abseil, which would take place at Cathedral Cavern in the beautiful Langdales valley. The drop is 140 ft ( only 20 ft shorter than St Thomas's) and would be organised by the wonderful Craig from Crag's adventures. You will be, I can assure you, perfectly safe ( I've done it twice, as have our daughters and my friend Charlotte - pictured - aged 70.)

Another MPN member Colin, whom many of you will have spoken to on this site - also joined us. Colin, any comments please?

The abseil costs £35 /person ( a bargain for a really feel good day out) for 2 to 3 hours and involves a bit of up hill walking but nothing which could be classed as uber strenuous.

We can accommodate 8 couples ( or two friends in a double bed! ) here in the house, all with own bathrooms and comfy beds. Obviously brekky and supper provided, for either one or two nights - Fri and Sat or just Sat.

if you would prefer to travel by train we can pick you up from the station (Windermere)

We live in Bowness, about a five minute walk from the Lake and so can guarantee a really great weekend of camaraderie, and fun!

Do join us if you can, you don't need to be super fit, and the professional photographer (moi) will be there to record the day for posterity and the Mpn newsletter.

Please email or preferably, phone me directly. louisebroughton@btinternet.com

Looking forward to seeing you.

YES. Would love to. Is there a date yet? Happy to book a room for 2 if dates OK

Haven't abseiled since a course at Plas Y Brenin , when I was a teenager.

I did this with Louise in April as it was something I wanted to do and had met her before. She is a lovely host and the experience was great. Takes courage to walk over the edge attatched to a rope but after that the descent takes over and it is truly a unique feeling. Craig is an easy going guy who is very people friendly but also totally professional and is clearly used to making everyone feel at ease and safe. One word of advice though. When I met Louise to do this her daughters then did the descent facing forwards as well as backwards which put a LOT of pressure on their abdomen. if you have an enlarged spleen do not contemplate this as half way down a crag face is not the time to find out you can't breathe because your spleen is pushed into your lungs or worse it ruptures. I think this is a wonderful inventive and generous idea and would highly recommend it.

Morning Colin! Thank you, lovely review and I absolutely endorse the advice re forward facing descent - don't worry Colin, I won't allow anyone to do it!

Catch up one of these days.

Hi Rachel,

Great! That's 2 rooms booked.

Rachel, please email me. Health unlocked doesn't always work for me and I need to be able to contact you directly! That way we can discuss dates, food intolerances if any etc. I promise I will not share your email address with anyone.

My email

Thanks
