Hi.does anyone experience burning or itchy feet. My feet turn red especially if I have been standing up for a while. Is there anything I can take to relieve this

Hi, I don't know whether you are on any medication, but when I was on hydroxy my feet really burned. Very painful, eventually I developed horrendous ulcers on my toes which wouldn't heal. According to the dermatologist the redness, ulcers and burning were all caused by the Hydroxycarbamide, the ulcers healed when I was changed to Anagrelide. The burning was nerve damage for which I take Amitriptyline, it takes a couple of weeks to kick in but controls the pain now. The nerve damage is probably permanent and although my toes have healed they are still various shades of red. The itching I used to get is part of the ET, My feet used to itch so much I used to rub them on the door mat to get relief. Itching isn't as bad since being on Anagrelide.

I had problems with my big toes before going on hydroxycarbamide . Nerve pain, burning and red blotches and itching. Painful to walk without pain relief . I used to rub toes on carpet too to relieve. Since taking aspirin and tablets seems to be much better . Hope yours improve.

Hello Yasmin

That's another side effect of the chemo. I've suffered this but mine only lasts a couple of days. If it continues you may need to get your levels checked.

Suggest you see your haematologist.

I had peripheral neuropathy ( nerve damage causing stabbing pains in legs) not long ago due to a very long course of a ghastly antibiotic called Nitrofurantoin. ( Periph neurop is a known but rare side effect)

My GP tried to blame it on something called erythromelalgia if I remember correctly - try googling it and see if it sounds anything like your problem.

I don't have erythromelalgia ( usually affects feet and ears I believe) but it is a known problem with MPN's apparently.

Best wishes

Louise

Hi Yasmin86,

I get that sensation as well, I have a peppermint foot spray by the side of the bed and spray my feet just before I get in bed, either that, or soak your feet in a tepid (or cold if you can stand it) footbath with a few drops of peppermint oil in the water.

Hope this helps

I eat ice cubes (softened a little) and this helps regulate my temperature. I also chew raw ginger and raw garlic.

Morning, one of my symptoms I continually went to my GP with was the burning in my feet. I felt I wasn't touching the floor when I was walking because the soles of my feet were so bad. After being diagnosed with PV Jak2+ and put on hydroxy it really relieved it but standing for long periods still brings it on. I am suffering more with itchy skin, especially the last couple of weeks. I am in for my check up with my Haemo this afternoon so I will see what's happening. I hope you get some relief with your feet soon x
