Hi, I was wondering if migraine was hereditory
my grandmother had it and depression, guess she gave it me
Hi, as far as I,m aware yes it is unfortunately. I,ve read that if one parent has migraine a child has 50% chance of getting it and if both parents have migraine there's a 75% chance.
Hi, I have it, my mother had it. Her mother was one of eight and four of them had it, including two of the sons, My brother does not have it. On the plus side it means that as a family we have a lot of experience in coping with migraine. I grew up knowing it was a nuisance but not the end of the world and I learnt from my mother how to cope when I had a migraine - the darkened room with a radio on, drink nothing but boiled water and eat nothing but the occasional cream cracker routine goes back in our family for generations. Mum, gran and I also all went self employed as soon as we had learnt a trade,. I thought at the time it was just because we were independent sorts but I now know it makes working life much easier if you can work at your own pace and time. As a family we have learnt a lot from and supported each other and that has to be better than feeling that you are the only one this rotten thing has happened to. Best of luck to you and your family..
My sister also suffers from migraine. My father didn't and I don't know if my mother did. I never got to know her well enough!
I think it's likely that a kind of neurological "something" is passed on and this can manifest itself in several ways. There is a link between migraine and epilepsy for example: bbc.co.uk/news/health-20908903
which is interesting as my mother is epileptic and I suffer from migraine. We always sort of mused upon the fact that the two things could be related.
Thank you everyone
