The trick is not to reduce your food too much - aim too loose it at about 1lb a week. Eat 3 meals with portion sizes reduced by about a 1/4, a pice of fruit between meals and a small snack in the evening and no drinks with calories in. Walk for at least 1/2 hour every day as well.

You can't make tea with skimmed - it just makes dishwater ;) You should be ok with some semi skimmed milk.

Gonna be right there with you this week - just got back fom holiday and got to do something about all those excellent cup cakes I've eaten.

Eat little and often to keep blood sugar levels up and make sure you get a good nights sleep. I also drink green tea and pomegranite tea it is just really lovely and takes the edge off. Good luck!

We always advise food that releases sugar slowly for migraine sufferers so there are no peaks or dips in sugar levels and it just so happens that food of this nature is pretty healthy. Cakes and biscuits are out, oat cakes, houmous and fresh vegetables are in. Research low GI foods on the net for more pointers. Its important to not go hungry!

Good luck.

we do follow a low gi diet as a family but im afraid as soon as a migriane is on the way im deserate for anything sweet, cakes, biscuits or chocolate!

At the present I'm on a diet to lose weight and suffer from migranies myself, also it can take time to lose all the weight you want too. My advice is to reduce your cal intake a day to 1,500-1,800, weight out your portions, eat up to 5 portions of fruit and veg a day (this will keep you fuller for longer), have ethier semi or skimmed milk (this is better that whole!!). I also go for anything such as cake etc, when I get a migranie too, but I control how much fat food I eat and at first I did find it hard to control, but it does get easier as the weeks go by, I promise you that!!

I've so far nearly lost a stone, 10lbs in fact, doing the above things. If you've got any concerns about dieting/losing weight, take to your GP.

Good Luck

It is difficult to eat the stabilising grains as I am coeliac, I find a lot of the products are "pumped" out with sugar and fat. I do not find fruit very filling and have to have a lot of toast for snacks. I, like a lot of you crave chocolate before an attack! I thought it was the chocolate giving me migraine, but when I finally found some self control and did not eat chocolate or anything sugary I still had the migraine ( so I can eat the choccy :) )
