Does anyone find things taste and smell different when a migraine is coming on?

yes, definitely. i always can smell smoke!

I am very sensitive to smells because of chronic migraine, I can't tolerate perfume smells early morning at all. I also imagine smells, it's all part of the migraine aura. Taste, I think I lose my taste, but I also can't drink coffee when I have a migraine, it takes on a much more bitter taste. There are also foods that I wouldn't want to eat, tomatoes, vinegar, anything with acidity just doesn't appeal at all, and I can't tolerate them in the migraine stages.

I do find that more often than not my sense of smell becomes heightened, which drives me nuts as most smells end up stinging my nose a bit like hayfever does. My sense of taste not so much sometimes things taste far stronger than i know they do.

I find I experience 'olfactory hallucinations' when I have a migraine coming - I smell things that aren't there - usually burnt toast. I also find that perfumes, especially if they are strong, make an existing migraine instantly worse.
