Stopping medications

Had anyone been told by their g.p, to stop taking tablets without first reducing them? My g.p says I should stop propanolol and fluoxitine as they don't seem to help, but stop immediately, without weaning myself off them. He hasn't given me anything else to replace them. 😕

I’ve never heard of stopping those meds cold turkey, particularly fluoxetine. I thought that had to be tapered off. Abrupt withdrawal can have awful side effects. I would definitely question that.

Yes I've had some awful side effects, I've got a phone appointment with a different doctor next week, I shall be telling her what I've had to put up with. Thankyou for you're reply

Hello Mary I don’t think that is very helpful of your GP. I think it’s probably sensible to wean yourself off Propranolol. Maybe you need advice from another Dr. I did take propranolol for migraines and it did help initially then I stopped taking it as it wasn’t helping. I can’t remember if I weaned myself off it. I’ve gone back onto Amitriptyline started at 10mg and built up to 50mg. It is helping and helps me get to sleep too.

I also use a curable app it was developed in America, it costs about £45.00 for a year. It’s informative about pain and the meditations are very helpful. I would recommend getting so people are totally healed by this approach.

I hope this helps. All the best

Hi Thank you for you're reply and advice. I'm on 50mg of amitriptyline and they also help me sleep. I've started taking B2 and magnesium tablets to see if they help. I've got a phone appointment(after waiting 3weeks) with different g.p so hopefully she might be more helpful. Take care x
