Migraine and Shingles

Around two months ago, amongst some other issues, I had a period of frequent visual migraines. Not wholly unusual for me - have had quite a few over the past five years. But not often so many in such a short time.

Now suffering shingles. And I read that migraines can be a prodromal symptom of shingles.

Just wondering if any other members have had this happen?

Sorry to hear you’re suffering with shingles. It’s dreadful… so painful too. I was diagnosed with shingles on 1st January last year. Still get very itchy … nerve endings still reminding me of shingles… So wishing you speedy recovery. I didn’t get prodromal migraine symptoms but felt ‘oddly’ out of sort 2 days before, upset stomach, a bit hot, tired (but am always feeling tired) . Take care.

I definitely don't recommend it to anyone!

I'd had some slightly odd feelings in and around my neck for weeks before - and wonder if it was winding up slowly at the time. The locations of pain, rash, and those odd feelings are right on top of each other - so am assuming direct connection.

Hello Helvella, Just to say, Helvella, that aural migraines are almost always nothing to worry over - they can of course come before a migraine, but by themselves they are usually nothing more than a nuisance - they can persist for up to an hour, when of course you cannot drive, or use machinery - you also will not be able to read, thread a needle, and other similar pursuits - so, there's no point in being concerned about them. I've had aural migraines for some fifty years. Can they in some way induce shingles - I don't really know. I've had shingles twice, once before the onset of aural migraine, once long after that. Your GP will advise you on this, or you might consult Dr Google - he knows everything :o)

Hope this helps a little,

Patrick

Yes - I have had a number over the years.

Just end up feeling a bit washed out and nauseous.

I was really wondering the other way around - whether the occurrence of shingles might have precipitated the migraines as a very early symptoms, weeks before the shingles proper.
