Left eye droops

Hi

I would love to hear from people who possibly have the same symptoms.

Basically my left eye will droop and I get really dizzy and off balance, this happens before my period then I get a hormonal migraine on my period lasts for two days .

Over the weekend I had VM , today I’m so off balance and just feel spaced out .

I’ve looked in the mirror and my eye again looks drooped .

I’m seeing my doctor face to face on the 20th .

I don’t know if the eye is connected to my hormones? Or is it a vm sign ?

I don’t have any other symptoms just the eye and completely off balance and

I’m due on my period in the 20th , I believe I may have PMDD also

It’s so scary as I’ve still no proper answers too what’s happening

Also I’m in the UK

Thanks

My eyelid droops when I have migraines and so does my mother's when she has migraines. There's such a strong correlation we've always assumed it was part of migraine.

My daughter has this. One time it happened while she was at a consultation with a neurologist, while they were still thinking she had FND, and he said, oh I see you also have occular migraine.🙃

Thanks for the reply. It droops sometimes without hard pain but I feel dizzy and sometimes spaced out .

Do you know if this is to do with migraine?

Just really would like a diagnosis instead of them telling me it could be this , it could be that ?

I worry more because I’ve never had a proper diagnosis x

Yes I think this is often a real problem that migraine sufferers have is that we are not given adequate detailed information about the possible and hugely varied symptoms that migraines can cause. If you are really worried about symptoms and you can't get more information from your doctors maybe give The Migraine Trust a call and see if they can help? I think because I've known for years that with hemiplagic migraines you can get whole body paralysis and blindness I've not panicked too much with the wonky face I sometimes get with migraine. But obviously there are other things that can cause facial problems like Bell Palsy and stroke etc so it would be preferable to get a proper answer, but I would say it can definitely be a feature of migraine too.

I once got rushed into hospital as a 'Stroke victim' turned out to be hemiplegic paralysis migraine, scared the living daylights out of me.

It must be terrifying, I got sent to A&E for a suspected stroke and that turned out to be torticullus!

Thanks lovely. Yes I’ve called the migraine clinic before and they said yes my eye can be a symptom of migraine. I just veg seem too get like this before my period usually two weeks! I Will take pictures to show my doctor next week . I don’t think it’s Bell’s palsy or a stroke as it’s not always there . I am also on iron supplements as my iron was low and I’ve been concerned that’s been making me more dizzy!( the iron ) I can’t even take anything for migraine as I react too it unfortunately. So when I get hormonal migraine along with being sick and diarrhoea I just have to ride it out 😭. It’s horrible I can’t do anything sometimes I can’t even drink water . My daughter has to do everything like lock up the house etc . I just don’t feel I’m getting any proper answers. I just hate feeling like I’m spaced out 24/7 . Sometimes I feel like I can’t string a sentence together. A friend thought I was drunk when I sent her a voice message last week which did upset me as she knows I’m suffering with dizziness etc which can make me feel a bit confused. I sometimes think is it a tumour 😢, but I don’t feel sick and don’t have headaches, or other red flags as the doctor says . I had a MRI a few years ago now and all was clear . EnT spoke to me on the phone and he thinks I have some vestibular problems definitely. Tinnitus can sometimes be so bad . Hopefully one day I’ll get a proper answer/diagnosis too see what’s going on .

Well if its any consolation I never found any of my abortive medications worked for my hormonal migraines anyway, so even dosed up to the eyeballs still had to ride that particular horrible wave too. I also found my IBS was triggered by my periods which is why I'm on a pill constantly so I don't have periods anymore, I used to have before, during and after migraines for my periods too, so the whole thing went on for ages.

My doctors keep telling me I'd be dead by now if I had a tumour which is how they have justified not giving me a scan in the last 30 years!

Have they looked in any anti-anxiety meds or anything because anxiety can cause dizziness too, I still gets bouts of that too unfortunately.

Thanks for replying. This might sound so strange but I don’t like to take medication. I do a lot of meditation and breathing. Yeah I need to stop thinking the worse .

The dizziness is constant. It just makes me feel so strange .

I keep trying to see if there’s a link with my periods.

Yes I believe if I did have a tumour I’m sure other symptoms would be present.

I think because I’ve been like this for a few years and I’ve never had an accurate diagnosis it’s just hard , whereas if I had a diagnosis I’d be okay .

Yes apparently hormonal migraine can be harder to treat . I’m dreading mine as I know I don’t have long until it’s here 😭

Yeah every medication adds a layer of complexity to your ability to feel and interpret what's going on in your body, plus the possibility of side effects can further complicate matters. Having said that by the time I was having 20 days a month of migraine I stopped caring and was happy to take anything they would give me!

I did meditation for years, I believed in it but I couldn't make it work for me, then when my kids were born life became too chaotic and I didn't manage to keep it going sadly.

I agree and am so sorry you was having that many a month . I always feel guilty when I talk about hormonal migraine I get because the pain and the other things it does is painful. When you can’t have lights on , noise , as soon as you move you throw up 🤮, the latest one we’ll do you know those soothe and cool head things ? Well my daughter gave me one to try 😂😂😂 never again the smell and the way it made me feel oh wow it was horrible. So yeah that definitely doesn’t help . I was given sumatriptan and my lips swelled , knocked me out and gave me a rash . At that time I was desperate but now I just have to let it happen x I will be interested to know what my doctor suggests we do next regarding the constant dizziness and spaced out feeling.

I do think it’s my hormones making me feel like this.

Soon as I got my periods back after a bad few years I don’t think I’ve ever felt the same. X

Bless you. It is a scary thing. Eye symptoms can be related to migraines I think. It definitely affects my eyes- Mine get really “tight” and when I look in the mirror they’re all puffy- usually a sign for me that a migraine is on it’s way. Hope you get some answers & reassurance from your Dr. 😊.

Hi there a 'Bell's Palsy' type effect is not uncommon among migraine sufferers and can also present as symptomatic of VM.VM can leave you with a selection of many many symptoms for many years after, if you have only just recovered I would suggest reading up on the disease, info is still sketchy but there is a lot more about compared to when I had mine in 1980!

I have experienced all [except the period related obviously] the problems you have mentioned over the years.

The toll it takes on your body is easy to underestimate.

Best wishes

Russ
