Hi I am a 52 yr old female living in the UK, I was first diagnosed with Migraine at the age of 7, so I have been living with it a long time, but I also have been suffering from Depression since my early 20s, again a long time, I would like to know if anyone else takes Sertraline 100mg and how it affects their Migraines if it does in any way. Sometimes I have almost come to end of my tether and thought about ending it all, but thankfully I have a very loving partner who has been at my side for 28 years, even though I have often put him through hell!. Thanks. Jo.
Sertraline and Migraine: Hi I am a 5... - National Migraine...
Sertraline and Migraine
I am so sorry to hear about your pain and struggles.
I do not have advice about the medication, but
Do you know about the "Head's up" Podcast? It is free and produced by 2 UK migraine Specialist.
They have helped me learn so much about migraines.
I hope you can find it and start to listen.
Best to you!

You may want to talk to the dispensing pharmacist about side affects of sertraline.
It might also be an idea to ask for a blood panel to check for vitamin deficiencies or if there is anything else going on if the migraines are getting more severe. My migraines changed a lot in my late 40s /early 50s and are still changing. Part of those changes was a B12 deficiency.
I am not medical, male and 63. My GP increased my Sertraline from 50mg pd to 100mg pd as he said it may help with migraines. I was getting about 4 to 5 per month. It seemed to help and I had fewer episodes, down to about 2 a month. However I have since been diagnosed with high blood pressure (which I always felt subjectively may be linked to my migraines) and was prescribed Candesartan, again it was chosen for additional possible migraine benefits. So far it seems to be making a big difference, no episodes at all since going onto 4mg pd and I have now reduced the Sertraline to 50mg pd.
Hope this helps.
Hi thanks for your comments, I have never had a problem with my blood pressure and I have it checked regularly, however my Mother died at only 34 years old of a Brain Haemorrhage, and I have since found out that they can be linked to high blood pressure, but then again she suffered from Migraines too so for a long time I was worried that I would die young, the same way, I think this is one of the factors for my long term Depression and Anxiety. Thank you again and Stay Safe.
Hi Jo,
Really sorry your having such a horrible time, it can get you to rock bottom can’t it? Like one of the previous replies, after a lifetime of migraine and every kind of preventive and rescue medication when I was 60 a couple of years ago, the doc suggested I try candesartan. It took about eight weeks to see any change and I couldn’t tolerate a higher dose than 8mg but slowly it started to work ( I have low blood pressure and it lowers it further), it was amazing. I got my life back. I haven’t taken a triptan in three years now. I know drugs work differently for different people and I don’t normally recommend stuff but if you haven’t tried it yet it might be worth a go. Having someone to support you is so important too isn’t it?
Wishing you well and hope that you find relief soon.
