My neurologist prescribe Topamax for my nerve pain. I have nerve damage in my lower back which is causing pain to shoot down my left leg. This medication is really help with that pain. I have been on this medication for about 6 months now. I have lost over 20 lb and feeling in my right hand well half of it anyway. I have been told that once I stop this medication that I should have my hand back. I'm trying to figure out how long it's going to take once I stop taking this medication for me to get feeling back into my hand. As of the moment have not taken the medication for 4 days and still cannot feel my right hand. My body seems to be going through withdrawals cuz I haven't taken any of my other pain meds as well for the last 4 days. So my pain and my nerves are all out of whack and I'm just having a hard time dealing with it.

Hi, Babygirlnml,
I have been on Topamax for a couple of years now. They were prescribed as a preventive medication for migraine headaches by my neurologist. They were working beautifully for some time. I am having difficulty with the headaches again in the last year. I have side effects of weight loss (no compaints), hair loss, brain fog, loss of words (big time). Since I'm incapacitated from cancer, these are all fairly minor annoyances in the scheme of my life right now, so I accept them for the trade off of no migraines. But my neurologist has always allowed me to play with my dosages. The only thing I was to realize was that this drug has to be weaned off of, that I could not just stop cold turkey. Is that what you have done?
