Hi, I’m just looking for a bit of advice really. Recently (can’t remember exactly when they started) but I keep getting a pain which doesn’t really hurt but it happens in the same place on the top left side of my head. Although sometimes can be other places too but quite rare The pain last about 1-3 seconds and goes away. Sometimes won’t get these pains for weeks then it’s 8-10 times a day again lasting only seconds. I’ve heard of ice pick headaches but not sure that’s what this is. I have been to my GP about it and she says doesn’t sound like anything serious anything to be concerned about but didn’t really give me an answer what it could be.
I do work nights at work and don’t sleep as much as I should. I do worry quite a bit and can get anxious sometimes so I don’t know if this has anything to do with it.
Just wondering if anyone has heard or has had this strange pain in the head.
Thanks

i’ve experienced this (in addition to migraine, yay) for a long time. it’s nothing! don’t worry about it. but that’s too easy to say. it really sounds like your worry itself here is the larger symptom, and that’s the one you should be tackling with your doc.
Thanks guys for the replies, yes I do worry about it too much. Usually I wouldn’t worry but lost my Mum in May due to a brain tumour and sepsis, so that hasn’t helped with the worrying.
I’m sorry that’s tough. I get the same symptoms related to a whiplash injury. It could happen on days when you stress your neck or hold a lot of tension in your neck . Try looking up some neck stretches.
I've also had this for years. Usually a day or two, dozens of times during the day. I thought it was some nerve thing and then years later I mentioned it to a friend who, as it turned out, had the same. Her friend who was a doctor (Russian cardiologist but with a wide knowledge of general medicine as is typical for doctors from 'that' part of the world) told her it was herpes. In her case, it was almost always brought on by carrying something heavy. I have recurrent attacks of herpes infection in my eyes so it made sense to me. A few years ago I had shingles, mentioned the painful spots in my skull to my (British) GP who however poo pooed it but she is generally clueless.
On the basis of what I know, I wouldn't worry about it.
That is sooo interesting. I am life long migraine sufferer. It "transformed" at 51 to a chronic condition. With ice pick pain, explosive electric shots and various other shocking pains. I have now had shingles 3 times and my head often feels like it's got a nettle sting on the inside .
I am too sensitive to meds so stick to candesartan, triptans and about to have second round of Botox.
But if asked to describe the base discomfort I would say it feels like shingles in my head!!
Wow, there may be some connection. I have absolutely no migraine or even hardly ever a headache, but my daughter, 43, does have hemiplegic migraine with the same sort of electric and pick axe pains, and Interestingly, she has had Botox twice now with good effect. Fingers crossed for both of you.
