Stroke or hemiplegic migraine

Was told I had a stroke because of loosing the feeling down my right side only to be told it wasn’t after ct and mri scans, but it maybe a hemiplegic migraine so waiting to see a neurologist, in the meantime to being seen I started to loose the feeling not just on my right but also my left as in arm, hands, legs which was worrying some enough but last night it also started in my neck as I lost control of my neck and could not hold my head up, these feelings can last from anything to a couple of minutes to hours as in 4+ and even then I don’t have full use as in strength. Has anyone got any idea of what this could be and what I can do about it till I get to see the neurologist thanks

the fact that the loss of feeling is temporary does imply that it isn't stroke related and is more likely to be something like a migraine.

Do you know when you are due to see the neurologist - would be good if your GP could support you to get an appointment earlier rather than later as your symptoms do sound particularly debilitating.

I don't really have any more to offer other than to suggest that you could also try contacting the National Migraine Centre directly and see if they have anything to say.

Hi, I went through being told I had epilepsy, then came a mini stroke

To get symptoms of both at once associated with migraine (I then gets told I have hemiplegic migranes 😡) so know I have the ? Of is this what had happened previously had I had stroke or epilepsy

But I know these are brought on by migraines 😢 The change of events that came from the (wrong/wright) diagnoses all them years ago

Hope you get a speedy appointment and some answers to go with it x

I understand that there is a clear difference between stroke and migraine-associated paralysis, and that is that in the case of stroke, the whole side goes numb at once whereas in migraine it starts at the top (face, eye, tongue etc) and progresses downwards. The rest of what you describe, i.e. Both sides being affected, losing control of neck and head, has happened, to my daughter. She has eventually been diagnosed with hemiplegic migraine.

Best, G.

I have a loss of sensation and power in my right side it took about five years for neuro to diagnose hemiplegic migraine because its never full paralysis. Sadly, for me, I’ve been told there is nothing they can do about mifraine auras and I’ve just got to wait for the migraine to resolve itself.
