Tyramine, cheese, wine etc.

I have had headaches for 25 years. I was having them most days right through the night and all through the day again. Couldn't plan anything.

I thought there was probably multiple causes. My breakthrough came 6 months ago when I found out that it took up to three days for a headache to manifest itself after you had eaten/drunk something that triggered them.

Previously I had eaten/drunk the classic suspects - cheese, wine etc., not had a headache the next day and therefore decided they weren't a problem. To cut a long story short I try ensure that I don't not take anything with TYRAMINE in it. Unfortunately this means cheese, wine, processed meats basically most things fermented, pickled, smoked etc. Look it up.

As a result I have cut my headaches down massively and am now on about 6 a month.

Its not so bad! I find I can have gin, vodka, mozzarella. Give it a go!

Healthline.com has following advice to limit tyramine intake:

-------------------------

Use extra caution when selecting, storing, and preparing your food.

Eat fresh produce within two days of purchase.

Read all food and drink labels carefully.

Avoid spoiled, aged, fermented, or pickled foods.

Don’t thaw foods at room temperature. Thaw in the refrigerator or the microwave instead.

Eat canned or frozen foods, including produce, meats, poultry, and fish, right after opening.

Buy fresh meats, poultry, and fish and eat them the same day, or freeze them immediately.

Keep in mind that cooking will not lower tyramine content.

Use caution when you eat out because you don’t know how foods have been stored.
