I use rizatriptan - you need to take it as soon as you realise that a migraine is starting. You don't need to use a full wafer each time - I generally use 1/4 of a wafer. I generally find it very effective.
Read the leaflets and if you have any concerns then speak to your GP or the dispensing chemist.
I tried Topiramate was taken off it at A&E it was horrendous for me suffered nearly All the side effects! Never again but I do hope it works well for you.
I'm on Topiramate and the side effects were horrendous for the first week. I recommend you stay near people who can keep an eye on you. I had the feeling of feeling incredibly drunk, dizziness, confusion. The feeling of being drunk wore off the quickest but I didn't feel comfortable driving for about a week due to just blanking out unexpectedly. However, I haven't had a migraine for 4 weeks and I normally have one every month so fingers crossed they are helping.
Best of luck
Hi, I was put in Topiramate about 3 years ago (25g x two per day). Everyone is different of course, but I found the side effects totally tolerable (really only tingling extremities, especially while exercising). In fact I would say it was more odd than unpleasant, & this steadily subsided (over a few months). I didn't experience any 'brain fog' etc. My migraine frequency definitely diminished. However, after a year or so, they started to creep back, so my (very supportive) GP suggested we increased the dose to 75mg per day. Again after a year, migraine frequency increased & we upped the dose to 50mg x per day. Side effects were then non-existent, but maybe I was lucky. Things were pretty good for a while, but then I noticed migraine frequency creeping up again. My doctor did mention that with Topiramate, sometimes you have to try out different doses - even going down after increasing dose for a while, but I have rather lost faith with it of late. So in a nutshell, it has helped me, but hasn't been a long term miracle. But equally I haven't had awful side effects (or maybe I find them more tolerable than others -we are all so different!)
I have really been trying to find more natural cures/preventatives. A wonderful lady passed me on her Cephaly device which I have recently been trying more - it is a little strange at first, but it really helps me relax!
My latest hope is 'DOLOVENT' (also sold on Amazon if you want to read about what it is, plus reviews), which I have just ordered from my health food shop. It sounds extremely promising. (and expensive!). I will keep you posted, though it's recommended to try it for three months to have a fair view.
All the best😄
