So I've had migraines since I was around 5. My mother learned what to do like make sure to put me to bed, make sure I have water, nice quiet pitch black room and would change my cool rag across my head when it got warm. I'm 23 now and finally got diagnosed with chronic migraines by my doctor who specializes in neurology. He treats his migraine patients with a magnesium chloride IV a few times a month or less. I've been getting them twice a month and I feel like it's helping. But this week I've had a headache every day and last night I had a migraine attack and today I'm still out of it and emotional and exhausted.

I was wondering if someone could give me a little more info on migraines. I really know nothing about them. I used to get them so bad I'd be sobbing in tears honestly wanting to shoot myself in the head to end it all. I would break out into shaking spells where I couldn't control my head to toe body trembling and I often used to hit myself in the head (is that normal?) And diarrhea.

Sorry if this is all so much! I'm just not getting the results I need from the IVs. It's like I need something more. I've heard of prescription meds to take only when you get a migraine. I don't want anything I have to take daily.

Hi.... Your symptoms are awful but I too have them... (and diahorrea...is common with migraine). ......so yes, for many of us this is normal for severe migraine. When the pain is severe I too have wished I could shoot myself and have welcomed the times I pass out from pain. 'tis no fun! I even have hit my head so hard I had an egg sized bruise above my eye! ....all because the pain was frighteningly bad and I could not take it! However, I have become knowledgeable over years through web searches, forums, reading etc but was lucky enough to hear about a recent World Migraine Summit which ran over several days and consisted of talks by migraine specialists/neurologists etc from around the world. This was accessed online though video links. For the first time I saw that there were other people suffering like me and that there were doctors working to try to help - haven't met many personally:( - and this gave me hope. ...hope that I can live with this and regain some control in my life. It's a real struggle but I will not be beaten by this awful disease. It is hard, but life is a wonderful thing..... Between pain episodes (I get over 25 migraines every month now) so it is hard work...I love life in whatever way I can. I hope you too can find a balance and find a way to live with this until they find a cure(I hope they do that soon!!) I don't know if any of this has helped you at all but you are not alone. Take care.

Thank you for your response. I know two people I'm close with that have migraines as well but they aren't managed. One also bangs her head against a wall when she has them.. I wonder why we do that :/

Maybe it's a response to the severity of the pain. Until I experienced such severe pain I could not have imagined it. Only those who have felt it can know. (Childbirth was bad ....but it didn't happen 25+ days a month hahaha!) Maybe external pain feels like it might distract us from what is going on inside our brains? I really don't know, and best try to resist:).

Hi 😆 and welcome 😆 yeah I'm totally with shawnie.

I've had migraine since i was 14yrs old, I'm a young 51 this yr and my migraines changed dramatically 2yrs ago.

I always controlled my migraine with migraleive duo talblets from the chemist and they worked for 30 odd yrs.

The new migraines were wiping me out, multiple daily migraines for 19mths. Tried every prevention med/ botox/nerve blocks/ IV DHE treatment / gadgets/suppliments etc.

Long story, but there's a problem with my jaw which was causing these migraines and i honestly wonder if this has been the problem since i was young? My jaw always made a loud clicking noise when i ate but didn't hurt or bother me. Now getting treatment and taking suppliments cocktail which is making a difference.

When i get a migraine i take sumatriptan injection or tablet ( depending on the migraine severity and how quick i need to hit it) i take 3x300mg of soluble asprin in a glass of fat cola! Needs to be fat cola lol.

Your in the right place, you will get advice from soooo many wonderful people 😆.

Yeah i would bang my head against the wall, pull my hair and just want to die on my bad days but I've come to realise life is a challenge and if this is mine "bring it on" i will not give up, end up on depression tablets or sit rocking in a corner. I live life as best i can but i know it's difficult.

You'll find your combo to help you survive 😆

Take care x

There's some good information on Youtube. Look for the Migraine Channel. Different types of headache, the effects on people and treatments are discussed. There's a doctor called Peter Goadsby who is a very knowledgeable specialist and a GP specialist called David Kernick who are videoed in conversation - do a search for them as well if they don't come up on the Migraine Channel.

There's a good blog called migraine.com where you'll be able to read about other people's experiences and things they have tried.

Hi! I've suffered with migraines all my life. I seem to have them under control at the moment. I can relate to the head banging although I never did it. You will do anything for relief. My Dr prescribed Clonidine Hydrochloride to take daily and if I feel a migraine starting I have Naratriptan. I still may get muggy headaches but not the raging migraines. I really feel for you as I know the pain only too well.
