Silent migraine

I've had migraines for 50 years, but recently in the last couple of months I've been experiencing silent migraines (aura with no severe pain). I usually only get 1 migraine per month and take pain meds. But wondering if your doctor has prescribed anything for the silent migraines? I'm getting about 4-6 a month with light sensitivity, nausea and slight headache. I'm thinking it may be the Lyrica I started taking several months ago for RLS.

I didn't find my Migraines with Aura got any worse on Lyrica , but if you feel you can definitely pinpoint the increase in them to starting that medication, and it's still getting worse it is worth discussing this with the GP and tapering off Lyrica for a few weeks to see if that is the cause. If so , your GP should find you an alternative medication to take instead of the Lyrica.

Is there a possibility that the Migraine with Aura could be caused by the other condition you are using the Lyrica for?

The change in symptoms for that condition may also be sparking new migraines.

I don't get a specific medication that helps with Migraine with Aura . I get various Ocular Migraines each month and even suffer with another non pain migraine called, Alice in Wonderland Syndrome which causes hallucination like changes in what I see , things change colour or become black and white , things look really big or really tiny , or appear like paintings, it can be very disturbing.

Self Care techniques are all that seem to reduce the length or amount of Ocular Migraines I get. Not letting the eyes get overtired by reducing screen time and reading. Lying down and closing the eyes with a warm or cold compress on them and allowing myself a short nap until it clears ( not more than an hour) . Relaxation and deep breathing with eyes closed if I can't have a nap. Sometimes getting low in certain vitamins and minerals can cause me to have more if these migraines so taking a supplement can help . Drinking the recommended water each day also helps reduce the number of all types of Migraines.

Making sure you don't get dry eyes or eyelids also helps , you can use carmellose eye drops in the day and a Vitamin A based gel at night to improve eye health and remove that trigger.

Wearing sunglasses or blue glass specs when outdoors helps with bright light , cold and the wind in winter not just in Summer. It also helps to use these in big shopping centres or offices with florescent light.

If you aren't sleeping as well as usual try to get back to a good bedtime routine and turn off all devices an hour before you go to sleep.

Hope things improve soon .
