Hi, does anyone have Crohns disease in our migraine community ...I know that migraine often comes with Crohns. A friend of mine is in that situation and her migraine is getting worse and more frequent. Her GP is unsympathetic and if she did get referred to an NHS headache clinic she will have to wait months or years to be seen. Does anyone have a good neuro in private practice with those skills? She lives in London .
Thanks.

Hello Pippwin. I'm sorry to read that your friend is having both issues and I can't unfortunately answer your question. As far as I understand, headache specialists don't look at any issue other than headaches/migraines and within the NHS, they are only interested in excluding any health issue that could be life threatening. They then put you through the 'migraine protocol' which is simply going down the list of all different medication the NHS has to offer to end up with Botox and CGRP injections. I must have spent 100 and 100 of hours searching on the internet to see if there is such thing as a headache specialist who could address my migraines AND my 'comorbid' health issues but to no avail.
Your friend will need to be extra careful if she goes down the way of seeing 2 different specialists, one for each problem. Medication given for migraines often aggravate IBS/Crohn and medication for IBS/Crohn could potentially aggravate the migraines.
I wish her all the best! Sorry for the downbeat answer but this is my personal experience!
Your friend could search the Head's up podcast. If the topic has not been presented, have her leave a message for them. It is done by 2 UK migraine Specialist, they may do a Podcast on it or if she leaves her contact info. They may write back. Also migraineworldsummit.com/ could help if she leaves a message and searches their sessions.
