Has anyone had bad migraines from using Melatonin for sleep? Since I started having sleep issues I have been using it at bed time, but many.. many days I wake up with Blinding migraines.. I had to use an injection this AM just to start the day. I looked and headaches is one of the side effects.

How much melatonin are you taking? I have recently started taking 5mg for sleep issues but I dont think it helps much. I have a long history of waking up early AM with migraine, but this hasn't changed in frequency since starting melatonin. I think I need to take higher dosage of melatonin but was unsure about side effects.

I tried 5.. didnt help.. then 10.. helped a little and now I am taking 15 and sleep well most nights. I wonder if I should go back down to 10..

Thanks for helping. I am waiting in a sleep study but cant get it until March

Oooh I'd love to know about your sleep study, doctors say no one can help me with sleep. What kind of study is it?

At home sleep study. I put a strap around my chest and a thing on my finger and it measures my sleep. I will know more in March.

But I have stopped the Meletonin and today... no migraine

Ooooh i wonder what you will learn about your sleep. Melatonin didn't help me but i never considered uping the dose, to be honest i always known it as a drug for children.

They said they couldn't do any studies on me bc I wouldn't get to sleep so there would be nothing to monitor. I did have my own sort of sleep monitor with a strap but no finger thing. It showed that I never went into deep sleep and that my sleep pattern was the mirror image of a normal sleep pattern.

Have you thought about learning to breath with medication? This has really helped me to get to sleep. I tend to stay asleep, but struggle to get to sleep. Any YouTube video on meditation might help.

Best to you.

Yes I've done years of meditation I'm fundamentally appalling at meditation. I used to do 2 hours a day at my peak, have quite an aversion to it now. Still use the mindfulness of breathing to stop my panic attacks though so that's good at least...

Yes,.I agree overall medication is hard. But what has helped me is equal breathling. Matching inhales with exhales. Also trying to extend the count for each breath. This puts me to sleep every time. I have one piece of advice for panic attacks. If you feel you are having one try raising you hands up. If you can raise your hands and if you can reassure yourself you are not having a heart attack. This might mean nothing but I found it very helpful.

I like the idea of raising your hands, to be honest any distraction when I'm feeling jumpy is good, bizarrely brushing my teeth used to help....Crazy isn't it...

I can take melatonin for about 3 or 4 nights in a row - 3 mg. - before I run into trouble with getting a terrible headache. It doesn't help that much with sleep so it's really not worth it. Instead, during the work week I rely on rotating Lunesta, Benadryl and Lorazepam so that I don't become reliant on any of them. Weekends I am on my own!

I just wanted to give an update. Since I have stopped the Melatonin I am not getting bad migraines in the morning any more. So I would assume that the dose I was taking was to high or my body didn't like it. I have stopped. Thanks everyone

Me! I hate Melatonin. Even only taking 1.5 mg triggers a migraine for me. I took it last week as I was desperate for sleep. I got some sleep...and a migraine the following day. It also makes me so groggy
