Can yoga help?

I suffer from a vestibular disorder like vertigo but with sickness and headaches. I'm wondering if anyone has had success with doing yoga to alleviate symptoms? Thanks

I haven't used it enough to try but I know that gently challenging your brain with things like yoga/pilates/walking etc. can help

Just did a quick 25 minute yin yoga and it was nice and gentle, I'll try it again tomorrow, thanks for the information.

I did yoga b4 migraines and do it now. Postures like tree pose are a way I can keep tabs on how my balance is doing and give me confidence. Vestibular physiotherapist told me 'no exercise that puts your head back/stresses your neck/head below waist' so I avoid these. A yoga teacher can advise on different ways of doing postures to get around this. Definitely worth doing for both health and wellbeing. Use a chair/the wall for support if/when you need to. Glad you got on ok 1st time :-)

Thank you, I've just started with a Physio so hopefully that will help too, going to have another try today but just gentle yin yoga for beginners

I found that a lot of yoga moves required the head and neck to be down and I had to miss out on some of the positions. However I have since tried pilates and have been doing this for about 6 months now and it is very good and helps .

Thanks, I've only been able to do really gentle yoga and keep my head up or I feel dizzy. I'll give Pilates a try too

I really recommend apapted yoga class so that you can spend time with a skilled teacher who can give you advice on how to modify the moves to help you deal with whatever symptoms you are having. One of the greatest part of yoga is the meditation which is the best and I think will really help you a lot. It is the last part of the class after you have worked hard in the class.

With adapted yoga you can alter any pose to make to fit your personal need and if you need to you can even use a chair if you need to.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I have been doing yin yoga for about 7 weeks now and am going to a meditation class once a week. I am really enjoying it and think it is helping. I think I need to meditate more at home to get the most out of it. I really appreciate your post X
