I take Magnesium with B6 tablets I only take 1 a day but it says you can take 3 It's certainly worked for me

They are Solgar tablets I get on Amazon

Good luck

I developed visual migraines about 4 years ago (a year before I developedAF) - I never had any before. I get the zig-zag patterns you describe. They can be timed almost exactly to the minute, lasting 25 minutes. I get almost nothing by way of headaches. They are usually triggered by bright overhead lights, or using an iPhone close up. I have long periods (6 months) when I have none, then they resume, occurring , say, every two weeks to a month. Last year I had them every 3 or 4 days. The GP doesn't seem to be concerned but I also wonder if they have something to do with the heart. I missed an MRI scan last year because of the crisis in hospitals.

I have read that taking a vitamin B2 supplement may help, but this is *not* scientifically validated.

I don't think the docs are bothered its just go away and take the pillsno one who hasn't got migraine can understand how vile it is

I definitely think there is some migraine / heart function / circulation connection. I've heard people say their migs either worsen or improve on certain heart/bp meds.

I recommend you keep searching for what works to stop them. I do not allow my migraines to last more than a few hours. I have 6 stages of "treatment" and it has really worked for me.

I do all of these daily to avoid migraines:

Drink..drink .. Drink water all day. Never skip a meal and include protein in every meal, snack with almonds in between meals when needed:

1. 3x a day Magnesium Glycinate ( 400mg and 100mg sometimes) and Feverfew 2x (I think 250mg) every day..

2. First tinge of head pain- ice cold can pepsi with 2 pills of OTC migraine medication.

3. Wait no more than 20min. If not gone 1 pill form of Imiteix ( 100mg- higher than most people take)... 20 more min.

4. If not gone, Epi-pen Imitrix (%90 of the time it is gone within 10min), but if not

5. Within 1 hour call dr. For injection ( an anti-inflammatory).

6. Almost never go to ER and get cocktail (my Neurologist has orders in my medical chart (anti-nausea, anti-inflammatory, migraine and hydration IV).

I also make sure to control neck and back pain, use ice, drink hot peppermint tea and mint roll on oil. Only when needed.

Hope this helps.. if you need names of things just ask. There are about 5-6 types of magnesium, I have tried a few but glycinate is the one for me.

Take care,

Thank you so much for your very helpful replyi will try all you say but having checked the drugs that i'm taking for my multiple ailments magnesium is a no no as it interacts with a couple

but your other ideas i shall defiantly try cos most of them i have not tried

i am day 5 into the migraine now and it seems its never gonna go

in reply to Onthemove1971

How effective have these measures been in reducing your migraines? Do you now get fewer of them?

This has totally changed my life..Before I would need to refill my pills on the day I could and now O have at least 3-4 pills and I can refill. I recently discovered I have sleep issues so I am working on that. I was waking up with bad headaces and so I did a sleep study and I have a issue so I can going to get a dental appliance to help me.

But over all as soon as I take my magnesium glycinate 3x a day it really changed my life.

I listen to the Heads Up Podcast and learn so much from them. They are 2 UK migraine Specialist and all they do is treat migraines.

I introduced the injection about 2 years ago and it has changed my life. Within 5min. Of the injection the pain starts to go away. That is how I know it is the right treatment. One last thing, please listen to the Heads Up Podcast. They are 2 UK migraine Specialist that discuss all aspects of migraine. They really helped me a lot.
