Hello everyone,I have been diagnosed with Mg before 3 months now and I'm on pryidostigmine 60mg 3× a day and prednisolone 15mg a day,all the symptoms are under control and I have been doing great since the first day of taking pyridostigmine. Now that I saw the side effects of prednisolone for taking it for prolonged periods,I want to taper it and slowly withdraw it,any suggestions regarding this,I'm afraid the symptoms will reoccur.Thanks.
Mg medication : Hello everyone,I have... - Myasthenia Gravis...
Mg medication
I have been diagnosed with MG for just over a year now. I was started on the same med regiment but ended up at 30mg of prednisone to finally get all my symptoms to stabilize. It has now taken the last 7 months to get down the 15mg. My doctor and my goal is to get below 10mg without bringing back the worst of my symptoms. I also am down to taking pryidostigmine 2x per day(I will go up to 3x if I start having flairs). Remember this disease takes patients and an acute aware to whats going on with your body. That said, my doctor lowers my prednisone 2.5mg every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on my body's tolerance. I can tell you from my experience, the first two weeks are the hardest, i start having small flairs and I need to be very cautious not to overdo. All that said, every person seems to be different. My Uncle, who has MG as well, has been able to stop taking prednisone all together unless he has a severe flair up of symptoms. You will learn over time to realize what symptoms show up for you first. For me it seems to be my eyes drooping and vision problems.
I hope this helps and wish you all the best.
Jamie
You need to talk to your specialist doctor about this and not do it by your self.
You can cut the tablet in half/quarters and gradually reduce the amount.
BUT SPEAK TO A PROFFESSIONAL
Not everyone gets side effects and the last thing you want is to make the MG unstable.
I already had diabetes type 2 (on insulin) when diagnosed MG. Started with prednisolone, gradually increasing it, then gradually decreasing daily doses until prednisolone was discontinued. Then started azathioprine, now taking it for 2 years (150 mg daily).Diabetes did not deteriorate in the meantime. I was told by my doctor that it was not unusual to have this combination (i.e. diabetes + MG) and he was not concerned at all. I was taking Pyridostigmine all the time (3 x 50 mg). After two years of therapy I am in full remission and hopefully will stop taking azathioprine. All said, do not be afraid of MG and diabetes combination; eat low carb and exercise.
Like you I was Diagnosed with MG 17 months ago in what seems record time (within four weeks of symptoms). Initially put on the same drugs as you Pryidostigmine and Prednisalone. after two months Prydostigmine withdrawn and slowly put on Azathiomine 50mg and slowly reducing Prednisalone and increasing Azathioprine to 100mg. Nearly four months ago I was finally freed from Prednisalone and last week Azathioprine was reduced to 75mg. The downside of is increasing aches and pains (some severe) in legs, feet, shoulder and arm which it seems could take up to a year when hopefully the adrenal gland will be back to full operation producing cortisone which had been shut off by prednisolone. I hope this is helpful.
Hi Like you I was on Prydostigmine 4X60mg and Prednisalon 30mg. I was tapered off Pryd. after two monthss and put on increasing doses of azathioprine from 25mg up to 100mg whilst slowly reducing Prednisalone. I was tapped off of Prednisalone after a year with the last 10mg reducing by 1mg every four months. The withdrawal effects of Prednisalone are aches and pains (at times severe)in both feet and legs and now shoulder even after after prednisolone has been withdrawn complete for four months. Encouraging for my MG the Azathioprine has now been reduced to 75mg. The effects of withdrawal of prednisolone can last 6-12 months as the adrenal glad recovers. I hope this helps you.
