You could try over the counter remedies but these have to be used exactly as the instructions say. What I used was a small piece of cotton wool smeared in fucidin ointment or vaseline, gently pushed under the nail at the affected area. It took a while but it eventually lifted.
However, I had one on my other foot which required part of the nail removing as it was ingrowing from the base.
Somone I know suffers with In growing toenails and they get theirs surgically removed
I hate this infection and i know how painful it causes your toenail. i know some remedies that can help reduce swelling and ease pain. You can try them for relief. If the condition recurs frequently or becomes more severe, you should see a doctor for oral antibiotics or nail removal. Here's what to do for painful ingrown toenails:
- Soak the affected toenail in apple cider vinegar for 20 minutes daily.
- Soak your foot in warm and soapy water 3 times daily for 20 minutes at a time. You can also add Epsom salts for additional relief.
There are many causes of a painful ingrown toenail, including cutting your toenails too short, wearing tight shoes, toenail injury and even toenail infections. So, you should take care of your toenails, keep them at a moderate length and wear breathable shoes. In some cases, toenail fungus may worsen your condition and slow down healing process. You should check your foot daily and see a doctor if you notice any signs of foot problems.
Thanks guys. I got an antibiotic ointment which worked wonders. Its much much better now
