Regular but lighter and lighter periods - perimenopause? What to do?

Hello!

I am 40 and a few months and have a 3 year old, and thinking of having a second child, but not ready just now, so we were thinking starting next year, which I realize is late and not ideal but that feels like the best for us. With our child I got pregnant at the first try, I had just turned 36. If we manage next summer, I will have just turned 41.

Before pregnancy I had 5-day long periods, very heavy on the first 2-3 days, very painful on the first 2 days, to the point of over-medicating on Advil, for years.

I was lucky that after baby, when periods resumed at 4 months postpartum, they were lighter (4 days long) and much less painful, in fact not painful at all, and without any of the usual inconveniences (tummy aches from diarrhea - sorry for TMI).

I am still very regular like a clock expect in periods of high stress.

I am still breastfeeding but only morning and night for a handful minutes total.

But recently I have noticed that my period has become so, soooo light - I only really bleed for one day, maybe 1.5 days, only use a couple tampons and go tampon free the rest of the time.

This month I feel like I have no cervical mucus whereas usually I get quite a bit and it bothers me.

This change (no CM this month) triggers me to post here.

Aside from this I feel like I have a bit more brainfog / moments of forgetfulness or not paying attention but that can be attributed to general tiredness and lack of me-time from having a toddler, I think.

Could this be a sign of perimenopause, even though my cycle is still extremely regular?

Should I see a GP to talk about perimenopause, will they even see me just on the grounds of "lighter periods"?

And finally does anyone know anything about trying for a pregnancy in the perimenopause?

How about HRT?

Many thanks for reading this far!

🙂 Scroll down to p 10-11 in the link.

It’s possible given your age that you could be entering Perimenopause..your GP may offer to test FSH levels.
