...im not very knowledgable on meningitis but im hoping i make sense :)

my daughter had meningitis 13 years ago when she was four ( meningococcol septacemia strain c ). I remember reading afterwards in a leaflet there were certain things that could appear several years later. At the time i didnt pay much attention as i was so wrapped up in the emotion of her recovery etc.

my question is could constant kidney infections and back pain be related as her doctor is at a loss .

she has pain in her back that she describes as the bones clicking out and then back in again, pain across her shoulders, spasms and constant pain in her lower back.

she also has all the symptoms of kidney stones but without the stones ???? ( blood in urine, painful to pee etc ) yet her scan was clear.

am i way off the mark ?

In my case Meningitis has caused a lot of these problems lower back and irregular bowel movements.

I had the disease 11 years ago at 32 years old and new symptoms have come on in the years since but hopefull as your daughter was younger her body may be able to fight better,

There is a great Facebook page for meningitis suffers and families which may help you with lots of info and after effects as it is run by people directly effected.

facebook.com/groups/2217358... (Meningitis Survivors & Supporters)

Don't feel you are alone in all this.

thankyou, ive since found .......

There are several complications that may occur after having meningitis. These include:

•Hearing loss. This is the most common complication. It is common to have a hearing test after you have recovered from meningitis.

•Learning problems. There is a small risk of your child developing problems with their learning and behaviour. Some children will require extra support and understanding in their schools.

•Epilepsy. A small proportion of children have brain injury after meningitis, which can lead to epilepsy.

•Kidney problems. A small number of children have kidney problems if their kidneys are affected as part of the septicaemia.

•Joint or bone problems. The septicaemia can cause some damage to different tissues in the body. This can lead to scarring to the legs, arms and body. Some people experience joint or bone problems which may develop several years after having meningitis

although this is very helpful it doesnt say if there is a cure or even a name for the bone pain.

thanks again, will check out the facebook page :)
