I was diagnosed in 1984 with Herpes 2 meningitis. I had never heard of such a thing. I recovered after 10 days in the hospital, but it hit me again 4 years later. Since then I have had it 6 more times, about every 5-6 years. I am currently in the hospital with the latest bout, at 67 years old. It is much harder at this age than ever before. This time, I will leave the hospital on a low dose suppressive therapy as my neurologist says if I get this again, it will be even harder next time. The suppressive therapy might mean I never get it again in my lifetime. At my age now, I think the side effects of the suppressive meds are less risk than getting H2 meningitis again. I have lived a very active healthy life in-between bouts, and I pray the same will happen this time once I am fully recovered, but it is taking longer. This time I am also experiencing hearing loss, which has never happened before. I am determined to recover again, and understand what all of you are going through. It is a tough journey, but one we have no choice but to make. Prayers winging their way to all of you who suffer with VM, H2M and Mollerets (like me).
