Post viral meningitis
Big hugs, have you been in hospital and had csf?
It is a scarey illness but it is good to know that it is not bacterial. There is a very good fact sheet on the meningitis now website under resources.
Its common to have after effects for a good while but in a survey 93 percent of Sufferers do not experience them beyond 6 months so the outlook is good.
Be very gentle and kind to yourself it does take a lot of rest to recover from and don't rush it. It takes time for the brain to heal.
Thinking of you. Xx
Thanks alot...so much the drs at the hospital didn't care to sjste with me..I'm scsred all over again😞
Hey Starry, Thanks for your survey info. First time I've heard that & it's such a breath of fresh air. Do you know where the survey came from or do you have any info about the survey or where I might find it? It will be 3 months on October 20th for me & I'm still having almost daily headaches and some phonophobia still. I also still require more sleep than I used to. Other than the above, I'm almost back to my old self so I have a lot to be grateful for. It's wonderful to hear that perhaps the headaches may be gone eventually. One starts to believe their lives will never be the same again after a while. But I will NOT give up and I WILL remain hopeful and grateful!! Hope all is well with you.
Its from p5 or 6 in the viral meningitis factsheet pdf download here. meningitisnow.org/how-we-he...
Sadly I am one of the 17 percent with after effects over 6 months then one of 7 percent over 12 but that is because I've developed ME and suffer another condition.
I found the factsheet hugely validating. Hope it helps you xxx
Forget about everybody else. Take care of yourself. Continue to read posts here which will help a lot. You're not alone & it's still very early for you. Do you know the cause of your VM? Drink lots of fluids, rest, listen to your body, avoid computers & cell phones as best you can (cause headaches), & keep researching to learn as much as you can. You may need to educate your MD on VM and its lingering symptoms. Best to you
