Positive thoughts post severe viral meningitis

So I am now 4 years post viral meningitis . I have been very ill, had most of the after effects that we see on this site: chronic migraine, chronic fatigue, numb left side, noise and light intolerance, dislocated neck and spine to name a few. I was told by fellow sufferers it would take 4 years to fully recover and it has.

However I wanted to share that this week I climbed Mount Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, 14 miles, 1345 metres. I did it in searingly hot temperature and it was by far the most difficult thing I have ever done. But I am feeling great: no migraine since April, no fatigue and all symptoms gone.

So have faith. It will take time for the brain injury and headaches and fatigue To go but it will go. I had to be very patient and rest a lot but keep moving. I ate a very healthy diet, lots of green smoothies.

Acupuncture helped to raise energy levels.

Physio in my neck and spine was key to recovery from the migraine and Botox .

So I hope this post helps those of you who are suffering from VM. I could hardly move for 12 months and now I have climbed 2 of Britain’s highest mountains.

That is so good to hear Bonkitty. I too have been suffering dreadful pain and debilitating after-effects following BM in March 2013. So many years of pain and of not being able to do much. But it has very very slowly improved, given time and being kind to myself. I have just begun taking CBD Oil (hemp oil) which seems to be really helping. I've only been on it for a week, but I have never had less pain and it can only be down to that. It's natural and there are no risks to taking it, so it might be worth you and others trying?

Hello, You can find my 28 year old daughter, Rosie S' Story, via the link on the forum stories from the home page.

We found that cranial massage worked wonders for her. Her job is working with horses on pretty much a daily basis and is very physically demanding.

It is rare for a story to be so positive and we have tried to let people know that this amazing complementary therapy worked for her. It helps release the spinal fluid which VM leaves a blockage for. Rosie is pretty much cured after around 10 sessions coupled with actupuncture, although found awesome relief after only one appointment. She is now free of all pain killers and antidepressants and feels right back to her old self.

We can only let you know what worked for her. It's not for all, but has now given amazing relief for many. It seems the success could be to do with the skill of the cranial osteopath you use. So it is important to find out the osteopaths credentials and experience in this specialised field particularly dealing with VM sufferers, if you can. (Not all osteopaths realise that this helps VM sufferers, it is often carried out on young babies with birthing problems). You need an osteopath and not a therapist who mearly has some training in cranial massage.

If you find you are getting the violent headaches and feeling lethargic and depressed after a few weeks, give this complementary therapy a go, it really could be worth it and save you being on prescribed drugs, along with months, years, of unnecessary suffering.

Kind wishes and best of luck

Bonkitty,

I love your picture! Congratulations!!!

I do not know you personally, but I smiled so big when I read your post! I am thrilled for you!!

I am happy to hear that recovery is possible and to see it in action!

I am 8 months post VM, and still suffer a lot.

I am grateful for my good days and that I am functional and able to take care of my precious 4 year old Daughter everyday.

I hope and pray someday my story has a happy ending as well.

Thank you again for this much needed positive post and happy ending when it comes to VM,

Happy New Year!

Jaime
