Am so sorry to hear that your grandson has had bacterial meningitis as such a young age. Meningitis can affect the hearing and a hearing test should be done as a follow up to check whether there has been any effect on the hearing. Has your grandson got a follow up appointment at the hospital because if he has then his parent(s) could make contact with the consultants secretary by phone and explain what has been realized. Otherwise his GP would be able to refer for a hearing test.

That's good that they are planning to get a hearing test done. I now have permanent reduced hearing in my left ear. However, when I was still in hospital and for some time after discharge I was very deaf and also had tinnitus but it did improve. Sound was just a big loud racket and it was hard to understand what anyone was saying or filter out a spoken voice from any other noise or even speech in the vincinity! If you are in the U.K. I was advise, either you or your grandsons parents, to ring the Meningitis Now helpline. They can send some information about recovery and what to expect and there are other services they offer. It has been a very scary and distressing time for all of you seeing your young precious infant gonthrough such a serious illness. They are also brilliant at talking through the worries you all might have and great to just be able to talk about and express emotions about what you have all gone through.

Very best wishes to you all and especially your grandson.
