Hi Everyone!

I was diagnosed with vm 3.5 weeks ago (along with Rocky Mountain spotted fever). I’m still in the recovery phase of all of it. I’ve noticed my headaches are easing up a bit & some of my energy has come back, but nowhere near my norm. It seems I can go do something, but come home & feel exhausted. Some days my headaches aren’t so bad, other days I feel like I’m waking around with a lead balloon sitting on my neck. I’m a mom of 3 little ones (3,5 &7), so life is busy.......Who has “time” for vm?!?! 😉

My husband has been great in holding down the fort while I recover. He has been hospitalized 4 times for a spontaneous collapsed lung, so I know exactly what it feels like to be on the other side as well. Trying to keep things running & caring for 3 kids somewhat solo. I know there are times of frustration (he has never complained), but I know it’s difficult. Does anyone have any vitamins/supplements or anything that you have found to help to recover? I know time & rest is the best option, but I thought if there is anything I can do to help my body fight this battle. I’m now taking 10,000 units of Vit D daily per my neurologist, to help prevent any other viruses from attacking. I’d love to do what I can to get better!! :)

Thanks everyone sooooo much!

I had viral meningitis at the beginning of march and found out 2wks later that I was pregnant (also have 3 children) so I have been taking magnesium which is wonderful for headaches along with a lot of tissue salts (google will explain as I cant properly lol) I am also taking a pregnancy vitamin and was taking collustrum tablets I feel all of these have helped so much, I still have a lot of days were I need to stay in bed most of the day but they are getting further apart. You need to know your limits because if you ho over then it makes recovery so much harder.

Meoxy,Ooh my goodness! You poor thing!! I can’t even imagine. Meningitis, 3 kids & pregnant. You are a true warrior! :)

Thank you soooo much for the advice! I will be checking into it for sure!!!! I’m just desperate you know?!? I feel guilty as a mom. Especially since it’s not super common, so most people don’t know what to expect as far as recovery goes. You just get tired of feeling sick & I think people expect you to feel better a few short weeks after (& that’s not how I’m feeling). Have you slowly gotten better since March?

Slowly but I've also had all day all night sickness 😣 which I think has hindered healing abit too. I hope you find something that can work for you xxx a great diet is helpful as a lot of foods are wonderful for brain healing.

Please give my daughter's story a read on this site. Rosie S's Story. Here lies sugnificant success (from what we know so far), for complete recovery from VM!

She suffered for near on two years before discovering meningitis now, subsequently trying cranial massage by visiting an independant cranial osteopath in her area.

All the symptoms you are experiencing are pretty much similar to what she suffered. It seems the key, and recent breakthrough, is releasing the spinal fluid which VM leaves a blockage for...and enabling it to flow again through your body, particularly your head.

There are some on this sight who have now given it a go after reading about it, and after just a couple of sessions, felt considerable relief.

I the last few days Rosie and I have been contacted by the media, news papers and radio to tell our story of this potential breakthrough!

We now feel we want to help as many poor people who have suffered this dreadful illness for which before now seemed there was no light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck and please keep posed how you get on if you try this amazing treatment. Rosie coupled this with acupuncture, having alternate treatments once a week, now a couple of months in. Xx

Lippistix,

Thank you soooo much for this! I am willing to do anything at his point. It makes me hopeful reading Rosie’s story! You have restored hope in my heart. Thank you again! It makes complete sense what you’re saying! Where did you find your therapist? It’s funny you say “blocked” because that’s what I feel like, like things are congested & can’t move about. I will be giving this a try!

Thanks so much!

Glad you are considering giving this therapy a go! The osteopath for cranial massage is local to my daughter. We are in the south of England, UK. May be try looking in the yellow pages, or Google a therapist. The thing is, it's not necessarily known yet by these therapists that the treatment helps post VM, so it may mean you explaining to them that it works!...hopefully they can then spread the word too. Best of luck and let me know how you get on. Xx

I had VM 3 years ago and it took that long to recover. I have taken : multi vitamins, magnesium , flax oil, aloe Vera gel and these helped me to feel better. I also swear by drinking green smoothies: spinach, kale, apple , ginger and any other ingredient you like, celery , cucumber , avocado etc. These really helped . I also eat lots of vegetables, nuts and seeds basically a superfood diet.

Having regular acupuncture seemed to help the most for raising my energy levels. But it has taken a long time and I still get very tired and have to pace myself.

Stopping taking medication also helped and it didn't make any difference to the pain levels but I felt much more alive.

I now have Botox 3 monthly to relieve the chronic migraine that I was left with.

Hope this helps

Bonkitty,

Thank you so much for the advice! I truly appreciate it! I am willing to do anything at this point. The headaches are awful & my energy levels are minimal. I just want to be & feel normal again. I feel like my kids are the ones who are getting the short end of the stick because “Momma can’t do this or that & is on th couch again” it makes me sad for them! :/

Did you continue to get better over time?

I realize it’s only been 3.5 weeks, but I’ve been sick for 7 weeks all together. You just get tired of feeling sick.

Hi

I have got better over time. I have recently climbed a mountain, set up a business and continue my job. I have to pace myself and keep stress to a minimum. For a long time I had to rest my brain and body , move a little, gentle walks. It took 2 years to get to the point of recovery but I did have a lot of problems caused by the VM.

I was told it would take as long as it did and once I accepted this things improved.

Take care x
