Meningitis is very dangerous. Whether or not she is contagious depends on what type of meningitis she has. If you don't have any symptoms, then you don't need to worry. She will take a while to recover until you find out how bad a case she had and how much damage it did to the brain and what was damaged. Each case is different. Based on what you said in your post, I don't think you need to worry about your health and can just be there to support your girlfriend who will need help after they discharge her from the hospital.

you may never know how she got it but at least she is being treated for it now. just be patient with her and her recovery because it takes a long time to recover.

could be a year or longer or shorter. it depends on the severity of the case. but it is like a traumatic brain injury similar to a concussion. where r u. what country?

ok you should have very good medical care there. she may have to stay in hospital for 2 weeks or longer. depends on her body response to antibiotics. she should be getting a consult with an infectious disease doctor and a neurologist.

Dear Bless20, Doctors do not know why some people get meningitis and others don't. Many people carry the bacteria in their nose and throat without showing any signs of the disease. While others, the bacteria leeches into their blood stream through the spinal fluid and up to the brain, causing the meningies to swell. Meningitis is a very serious and deadly disease and requires immediate medical attention. If you do not show any signs of the disease within 10 days after contact with a person who has meningitis, you will be okay. Normally, people who are in direct contact with a person who has come down with the disease, they normally give those people antibiotics or a shot of the vaccine. Yes, there is vaccines for Meningitis. Check out MCV4 vaccine that vaccinates for 4 of the most common strains of meningitis - A, C, W-135 & Y. A person who has contracted meningitis could have life-long disabilities such as loss of limbs, organ failure, blindness, deafness, neurological damage. I pray your girlfriend has a full recovery to perfect health.
