Hi Just wondering... Has anyone got any experience of ASC funding for care support where the adult has their own accomodation.

Thanks all

I asked for this, they agreed in principle but I had to pause it whilst I apply for deputyship. It is possible though.

Hi, Thanks for your reply- do you mean that you have had to apply for LPA for money & financial affairs ?

My son doesn't have capacity to sign a tenancy agreement so we couldn't go ahead with the accommodation until a deputyship is in place. LPA is only applicable for those who have the capacity to consent to it. He already has direct payments in place for after college support and SS agreed to increase it to cover full time care once he is in his own rental accommodation.

Yes - our son lives in own accommodation and receives direct payments for buddy/carer support - only for 4 hours a week though.

hi. Yes my daughter lives in her own rented flat and following a recent hospital stay now receives support at home three times a week. She hast contribute but that’s means tested so isn’t excessively high. So yes it is allowable.

Thank you

I know someone who gets ASC support. Various people flagged up that they needed it, after years of not coping very well. A social worker came and assessed their needs. They arranged for an agency to send a helper I think it’s about six hours a week: three hours for a weekly excursion, maybe to the shops, and the remaining three hours to help with admin and housework. So the person doesn’t have to handle payroll stuff.

Social services make the person fill in a form about their financial situation for means-testing. That means getting hold of loads of documents, benefit letters, bank statements, and listing all disability-related expenses and other regular costs. They use those figures to calculate how much the person has to contribute. It’s important to be thorough about declaring disability-related expenses so as not to get charged excessively for the helpers. It’s annoying, because some expenses are recognised and others are not. And, if you don’t send the bits of evidence they require, they start sending large bills.
