Hello, I have a daughter with learning disabilities and her friend at the day centre also has learning disabilities but she doesn't have a diagnosis. She is 20. Her Mum has English as a second language so I am helping her. I am sure I saw a form thst you could complete and send to the GP to request to be added onto the register but I can't find anything. And only information about childhood diagnosis. Does anyone know how she can get more information, or the form please. Thank you

Learning Disability Diagnosis as an adult
Hi Criss01 thanks for reaching out. There is a Learning Disability Register which is a list the GP holds. When someone is on the register they can ask for reasonable adjustments and extra support when they go to the doctor, or get information in an accessible way. There's more information about this on Mencap's website: mencap.org.uk/advice-and-su...
But, this would only be available if someone has been diagnosed as having a learning disability. Getting the support of your GP is often the first step towards getting a diagnosis, even later in life. They should be able to offer advice and refer you to a specialist if necessary. It would also be worth contacting the learning disability team at your local authority who should also be able to offer some guidance on diagnosis.
Hope that helps.
I would ask the mum if she had an EHCP when she was in education. If so, I would ask her if she'd be willing to let you look at it. She may have had an IQ test as part of that process. If so, the GP may be willing to put her on the LD register just on the basis of that test.
Thank you very much for your replies, I will pass them on.Learning Lot, she did have an EHCP but we don't have post 19 education provision so that stopped and it doesn't look like she had an IQ test as part of the assessment.
