My daughter, now in her forties is in single supported living with 24/7 support 1;1 and 3 hours 2;1 to enable her to go out in community. She has epilepsy, non-verbal, autism and sometimes challenging. Over pandemic has put on a lot of weight.
Have asked for referral on NHS for dietician to enable staff to follow a more appropriate diet, although they are trying their best.
I've been told waiting list is at least 20 weeks and then could be much longer. Does anyone have recommendation or could signpost me as I am prepared to go privately to help her sooner. Have looked on line and cannot find dietician with experience of someone like my daughter
Many thanks..

You could take her to a slimming club there’s a brilliant app Ive used Nutra check staff could calorie count and they would have to measure everything but it really teaches staff portion control and how high calorie foods are. Your local council will do weight management groups to try and help people to loose weight. Just a few ideas plus the council also do leisure access things at a reduced rate for disabled people and Mencap locally may also be able to suggest things or her doctor and I believe they can prescribe weight watchers on prescription but I don’t know if your daughter would cope with something like that. Best wishes Jo
The Public Health Collaboration has lots of information about which foods are high in carbohydrates (which should be avoided). Low Carb Down Under also has a lot of information. Both have doctors and scientists giving presentations. I have watched loads of YouTube videos. Yet to see an overweight speaker except some 'before' photos. They live the same way they advise others to.
I understand your concern for your daughter's health and well-being. It's commendable that you're seeking assistance to address her dietary needs. While waiting for an NHS referral can be challenging, going the private route seems like a viable option to expedite the process.
Tapasya Mundhra, a dietician with expertise in various health conditions, including epilepsy and autism, could be a suitable choice. Her personalized approach to nutrition might provide the tailored support your daughter needs. I would recommend reaching out to Tapasya Mundhra's practice directly to inquire about availability and discuss your daughter's specific requirements.
Wishing you and your daughter all the best on this journey towards improved health.
