I am looking to hire a travel companion for my adult son , Wednesday mornings, 8:00 am start from either Brentford or Clapham Junction to travel to Godstone, by train, and travel back after 12:30. You would have two hours to enjoy Godstone whilst my son participates in an activity there. Must have enhanced DBS , be over the age of 25 and communicate in English.

I hope you find the right person! This forum might have limited scope, because our contact details are hidden, and our identity is anonymised

Last time I needed a support worker, I unsuccessfully tried various job sites and finally put the advert up on my own personal web page with a “contact me” form, but spread the news around my social networks, asking people to share with friends and wider community, with a link to the advert so people could click on it and then contact me straight away. I had three responses of which two bore fruit. I put in quite a lot of detail about my son’s likes and dislikes and about the particular qualities required in a support person. I wrote “sense of humour” and “very good interpersonal skills” You’ll have your own list.

These days, a lot of freelancers are on the Update Service of the DBS, so one can then check very easily, but one also needs to follow up with two character references, and it’s a good idea to speak with the people and ask them things like “please could you outline any reason why I may not be able to trust this individual with my vulnerable family member?” and “how do you think they would cope if something unexpected arose?” You can easily create a personal web page via yola.com
