I'm looking into setting up a Will/trust for my daughter who is 7. I'm trying to find a list on Mencap website for solicitors. But can't seem to find one.
I've approached Irwin Mitchell and they quoted £1500 but I know wills and trusts ect can be expensive.
Could anyone point me in the right direction of good solicitors in Manchester or the surrounding areas?
Thank you

hi there. Mencap have a wills and trust service and a list of solicitors so contact them directly if you can’t find what you want. Trusts can be complicated to understand snd administer and can be set up during your life as well as on death. You will need tax advice as well , as both wills and trusts have tax consequences so make sure you choose an organisation that can do both. Setting up a trust costs around £1000 plus vat ie £1200 and then there is a will as well eg £300 ish plus tax advice so the whole exercise will cost but it is important to get things right early on. I don’t know a solicitor in the Manchester area but is that really important when you can do video calls these days ? Good luck
Hi there, we are in a similar situation and have in the past signed up for one of Mencap's online Wills and Trusts seminars. Hopefully they still do them. Incredibly helpful and they will also point you in the direction of solicitors in different parts of the country who can help set this up for you. Check Mencap's website to see if they're running any soon, we found it really good. Also, you might find a local solicitor who will provide a free 30-minute consultation to run through the basics - we did this after seeing a solicitor giving on the spot advice in our local library! Good luck, and hope you find your way through the maze.
Eeviee is correct. Beware, Mencap push on leaving money to the charity, it’s your family member that needs all the support they can get, especially when you are no longer here.
Irwin Mitchell cover Manchester and provide an excellent service. There is no one size fits all, so individualised advice is necessary including advice on tax. I hope you find a way to make the best possible provision for your daughter, achieving that has been made increasingly complex by the government.
The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners ( I think that's what they used to be called, nowadays it seems to be just STEP) is very useful, check them out at step.org/about-step/public
