My brother is 54 years of age and has complex learning disabilities. He cannot live independently and lives with our parents. He has recently started to attend a centre 4 days a week but we are looking to expand his social life in the evenings and/or weekends. Can anyone recommend anywhere in Rotherham that would cater for this please? thanks

Hi, it would be a good idea to ask your brothers day centre if they know of any local leisure groups. You can also try your local carers group or social worker.

If your brother has a direct payment he could pay for a personal assistant who could take him out to places he might like to go for instance bowling, cinema, meals out, walks etc if he doesn’t have a direct payment ask his social worker about getting him reassessed so that he can obtain the budget to get a p.a.

thank you for your reply. The centre has suggested something on a Saturday so we are giving that a go. Mencap have nothing in Rotherham sadly and my brother does not like travel. Carers Group were on my list to contact. I’m waiting to hear back from the social worker…. I had not thought of the personal assistant….. that’s a very good idea. Many thanks 😊

All the sessions are on Zoom :)
