I am Seth Oduro, a Registered General Nurse with Bachelor's degree in Nursing. I love caring for patients with chronic or life modification challenges, supporting them to perform ADL and in their medications. I am available for employment should any institution require my service as a carer. Thank you!

hi OBIBAH you shoud come to the UK,in places like manchester its got a big ghanian community and its got major need for both support staff and carers so you woud defintly get job if you can meet their interview standards.

somewhere like northern england may be better which is cheaper to live in than other places.

you may like the idea of support work or being a carer- you dont need certificates of any kind to do this, but care organisations usualy look for someone who has a lot of care, patience and empathy for others.they also may do something i find very strange hearing it- called scenerio questions, when they use fake stories to find out what you woud do in that situation.

i used to sit in on interviews helping both a complex autism service and social services CLDT get staff, the first one-a complex autism residential service i was cared for by, took my opinions seriously and really listened to whatever i typed, they woud then write that into the interview papers....however a different office- under the same company but in a different town (a mixed disability office),used me as their token disabled person, they didnt care what i thought and ignored everything i had bothered to type out about different people we interviewed-clearly i was there just to be the token.some of them ended up at my service-working with me! right after id told the management- very negative feedback about the staff which turned out to be right.

there is agency support work-you only get paid a tiny bit more i was told by staff and its easier to get the job but you dont get the same job protection and never get to know regular staff or services as yu get sent all over the place, you might only have a bike or public transport for travel and theyre suddenly theyre sending you miles and miles away. also, some services will charge the staff to go on training) -a lot of regular staff will also have negative views abut you purely because you woud be from agency as they feel as your new then they have to do two jobs for one wage-i see this happen a lot at my service.

support work can also be any hour of the day depending on how the organisation sorts the hours out, they may make you do a 'waking night' or two/three (staying awake all night--napping,or putting on headphones and chatting on the phone or listening to music can result in the death of a service user and the staff end up on the POVA list, cleaning, covid cleaning-which is still done, checking on service users, restraining -in some services-other services may not be taught any form of restraint so may relie on locking selves in office and phoning police), giving medications or PRN medications, giving buccal/rescue epilepsy medication if service user has severe epilepsy-this coud be anything from buccal diazepam to depo midazolam, going to hospital with a service user etc),day shifts are very much the same but may involve a lot more interaction with the service user, may mean getting them on the minibus to go to to day centre, may mean taking them shopping or driving for them, and evening shifts may mean anything from cooking meals, helping people cook their own meals, helping people calm and redirect them to something they enjoy, taking them to a gig or DJ set or football match etc.

-you have to be prepared to come across people with views very different to your own,it might mean sitting there and blocking it out as much as possible to avoid a fight-either with another staff or servvice user like for example,an example here- ive been called 'a r****d' many times by service users who do not have learning disability.another time- a support staff i have from ghana who ive known for years and really like is christian but some suppport staff have joked about her beliefs before.ive also heard some support staff be very 'far right' and controling, and there was one person in that category who i really dislike-we really dont get on and some of the stuff she did shoud have been made safeguarding issues instead of being made my mistake, thankfuly she never picks up shifts with me anymore.

another job id say to look up woud be HCA (health care asistent) my sister qualified as one a while ago and now workss in a NHS hospital. one minute you might be sat with someone on end of life care in A&E holding there hand because there family didnt want to be around for them, to doing someones blood pressure or taking blood to being sat around waiting for something to do- it depends on the hospital you go to. i dont know what qualifications youd need for this if any, but i do know my sister had to do quite a lot of training (online and in hospital) before qualifying, she isnt qualified to do blood thankfuly shed probably faint and need a HCA herself but she did hold the hand of the dying patient who was left alone on her own.

ive just edited thjis -i forgot to say, she gets paid £16 a hour on sundays, but i think shes expected to work 6 days a week, its not a great job for families though, unless the kids have just started high school or someone else can pick them up from school and look after them.
