Voice recording calendar reminder / alarm app.

Does anybody know if there is such a thing??! My LD son is going to be moving into independent accommodation (very nearby) as we are all keen for him to have as independent a life from us as possible (for that time in the future when we won’t be here - and the SS can’t be relied upon). I hope he will be able to manage living on his own with support and I am trying to ensure I have done as much as possible to make life run smoothly for him.

He cannot read or tell the time but is quite good with his iphone (aren’t they all nowadays!). At the moment I set alarms on Alexa but they don’t say what the alarm is for (“time to have a shower / get the bus to work”).

Does anyone know of anything that would enable me to remotely set appointments or alarms on a calendar either on Alexa or on his Iphone which i could prerecord as a message which he would hear rather than have to read? It seems like such an obvious need - also for those with dementia for whom the voice of a loved one would be more accepted (although i realise a disembodied voice would still not be ideal i that case). Just hoping such a thing exists - or somebody could invent it quickly!!

Thanks for reading.

I don’t have an answer I’m afraid but I’m very interested to see if there is something, my daughter is also about to go into her own flat with support.

This is possible with Alexa as I set it up for my dad. I have a feeling you set up a calendar rather than alarms. You can have recurring ‘events’ so you don’t need to type everything in every day. But Alexa won’t work when he is away from the internet so an app might be better. Try looking on dementia sites perhaps

Yes but he cannot read and write so i need to set for him (remotely) and a voice message rather than text needs to alert him. It’s really not so easy to find!

Hello,

Are you aware of braininhand.co.uk ? Definitely worth looking into.

I expect that there might be a variety of apps out there, especially for the sensory loss or dementia community but the problem is tracking the good ones down. I know sometimes certain newspapers and magazines review them, worth searching the Guardian, Independent and Which at least.

Be good to hear how you and your son get on.

Thank you. I’ll have a look into them now. All info is useful. Alexa calendar info in above response gets me nearly there already. This is a great site!

Wow, I had not heard of Brain in hand before and it sounds just what we need for our son to help his independence! Thank you and I hope people keep adding any other support tools they have come across. I agree there is a big need and tech gets there for eg autistic and dementia but hasn’t developed enough yet.
