I have a son 22yrs and have moved to the UK just last year. We had applied to our council for an EHCP for him and they have a draft ready which will be sent to us to review. Can anyone help me by telling me what exactly I should look for in the EHCP or what are the points that should be mentioned in the plan. My sons is on the severe side of the autistic spectrum. He is non verbal and has sensory issues. He also has weak fine motor skills and therefore needs speech and occupational therapy. It would be of great help if anyone could guide me.

Jump to repliesI do wonder sometimes if people really take notice of these pieces of paper. When my younger son left school at 19 and started college, it specifically stated that he has a dairy and wheat free diet. You would expect those special needs teachers at the college to have read up a little on their class pupils....but no first day they were all having cornflakes and milk to start the day. He has breakfast before leaving the house too. The only reason I knew was that I sent his helper in with him and she told me. For 3 months I tried to give it a chance but my son was getting bored there as they did the same boring old routine every day expecting them to be motivated by it. In the end I pulled him out and I never even bothered anymore with the Plan as I thought nobody even bothers to take notice. It took a lot of input to make it all and it was all a waste of time.
The college had no physio or OT to come in either.
But you do need to put any allergies and exercise he needs. I don't think I have my son's around anymore so cannot remember fully what it had on it but it was all done with my input and what his needs were and how he was helped.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. But I was so upset about it all being a waste of time.
