How can I keep my patience with daughter with ld ( aged 17) constant repeatative talking mainly asking questions over and over again. I get really frustrated. She’s not badly behaved but I’m on my own with her a lot and pandemic has made her more dependant and errr annoying!
Thanks

Hi manyjobs. I understand exactly what you mean . My adult LD son lives with me . Since all his daycare and support workers stopped in march he has become even more dependent on me, more than usual , we lost his dad 2 years ago and he doesnt understand,
He has very limited speech and is constantly repeating himself . We have been home for 19 weeks now and it's very aggravating at times . If I get a phone call or someone comes to the door hes constantly interrupting . I know he cant help the way he is and I love him dearly but we are only human and it is very frustrating at times . The usual stresses of caring full time is hard enough without being locked down by this virus .
This must be very tiring, particularly if it is just the 2 of you.
Does she expect an answer every time, or is she happy to chat without a response?
Is this something you are able to talk to her about? Do you think she would respond to the idea of '2 minutes' silence, or if you said that she is welcome to talk but you can't answer at the moment?
It may be about reassurance, or it may just be habit. Are you able to distract her at all?
A few ideas:
1. try to identify triggers
2. structure your day. A bit along the same lines as keeping busy
3. See if you can find a bit of time to yourself. Even it is only 5 mins.
We are all bit stuck in that the moment. Hopefully we will be able to get back to our normally routines again soon - which may help a little.
