My sibling story

My little sister Serena is very special to me. I say Serena, but I always call her ‘Princess’!

It’s an interesting bond when Serena can’t really communicate. Without words, you’re left with feelings. The love I have for Serena is unlike any other I’ve experienced. We light up when we see each other, like in this picture. I give her lots of hugs and kisses. In return she gives me a subtle smile and rocks with excitement, which is more powerful to me than any words could be.

I often feel sorry that I am not with her more often. Perhaps a feeling lots of siblings have? And this time apart due to isolation is tough. But Serena has made me a better person. Because of her I was inspired to run some marathons and raise money for causes linked to her in some way, such as Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and now Mencap! (uk.virginmoneygiving.com/la... is my page)

Whilst I would love to take away all the struggles Serena has and still goes through, I wouldn’t change a thing about her.

Will be nice to read other siblings stories this week and on national siblings day. :-)

Hi Serena - thanks so much for sharing your story - your words will resonate with so many siblings who share a special bond with their brother or sister. I know many siblings talk about feeling guilty because they can't be with their brothers and sisters as much as they would like, particularly at the moment. Do have a look at the Sibs website sibs.org.uk - we have lots of information for adult siblings.

We look forward to hearing more sibling stories this week!

Kind regards

Clare

Thankyou for sharing this.

Yes what a beautiful picture. You can see the bond that you both have together.

I can relate to the feelings thing instead of words as my son is unable to communicate verbally also. His smile just makes my heart smile.
