Hi all,

Does anyone have any advice for me basically I have a four-year-old son with autism. I live on a third floor flat and on several occasions he has been seen climbing the balcony including once getting right to the top, I have had letters from my GP and another professional and I’ve got an additional three points for bidding, currently they are just telling me to carry on Bidding. Is there any other step I can take He gets frustrated by the lift and walking to the third floor with four children is just something I cannot deal with as I also have a pushchair. Can anyone else advise me of anything else I can do I am at my wits end having to lock all doors and windows it’s just not fair on other three children. Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

That does sound stressful. Could someone like an occupational therapist assess your home and give you some safety aids to help out until you can move?

Also, have you had a health assessment of your own for the housing list? The stress of being a carer could get you some more points maybe?

Do you have a carers charity local to you? Maybe they could support you too?

Best wishes,

Hiya, thank you for your response. No I haven’t taken the OT approach yet or had a health assessment for myself.

Will look for a Carers charity local to me, (do they offer advice?)

Thank you very much x

The Carers charity for my county offer advice, support groups and courses and they can signpost you to other services too.

Hi Iramkhan123

I agree with Wibblewoo's suggestion. Most areas have a carers centres/organisation, and most of these offer advice. They are a great way to make sure you get the support you need to carry on doing the wonderful job you are as a parent. You may also get the chance to meet other parents in a similar situation.

They are very likely to know what the housing situation is locally.

Many carers centres are part of Carers Trust and you can search on their website - carers.org/search/network-p...

If nothing pops up near you try just using Google - search on your town/area and the word carer.

Don't be put off by the word carer (I know a lot of people feel put off by it) :)

Best wishes

Sarah
