My niece lives in Essex, she has 18q- syndrome that gives her mild disabilities. She is working in london and can drive, she currently lives at home with support from family. We are starting to think about independent living any ideas of where to start?

Hello and welcome to the community. The first port of call would be social services, does your niece have a social worker? If not contact your local social services learning disability office and ask to be allocated one as she is considering supported living. They will go through the process and whats available in her area, they should carry out a needs assessment which will fit the right type of accomodation/support to her individual needs. If you experiance any problems give the mencap helpline a call on 0808 808 1111 they can advise you further. Let us know how you get on others will find any information you can feedback useful when considering supported living for their loved ones. Wishing you and your niece good luck on the journey.
