More research showing vaccines can induce CFS & FMS as part of ASIA...

A research study conducted a retrospective analysis of medical records of ME and FMS patients to assess the reaction to Hepatitis B Vaccine (HBV). This study has shown that the vaccine can induce Autoinflammatory Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants (ASIA) which causes onset of CFS and FMS.

"Medical records of 19 patients with CFS and/or fibromyalgia following HBVv immunization were analyzed. All of which were immunized during 1990-2008 in different centers in the USA. All medical records were evaluated for demographics, medical history, the number of vaccine doses, as well as immediate and long term post-immunization adverse events and clinical manifestations. In addition, available blood tests, imaging results, treatments and outcomes were analyzed. ASIA criteria were applied to all patients. The mean age of patients was 28.6 ± 11 years, of which 68.4 % were females. 21.05 % had either personal or familial background of autoimmune disease. "

"All patients fulfilled the ASIA criteria. THIS STUDY SUGGESTS THAT IN SOME CASES CFS AND FM CAN BE TEMPORALLY RELATED TO IMMUNIZATION, AS PART OF ASIA SYNDROME. The appearance of adverse event during immunization, the presence of autoimmune susceptibility and higher titers of autoantibodies all can be suggested as risk factors. ASIA criteria were fulfilled in all patients eluding the plausible link between ASIA and CFS/FM."

I know this is a year old but hopefully you will get a notification or something. First I want to say that I am not anti-vax in any way. I think vaccination is extremely important and overall reduces the net suffering of the world. I was a medical student so I know the science behind vaccination and its importance.

I had the Hep B vaccine after my ME had already started. I first got ill after a post-viral illness but after pacing I had a full remission when I was around 20/21. During this time I had the flu, a year after that the swine flu vaccine (with a couple of side effects but nothing bad) and a few weeks before the hep B course I had a TB test and vaccine. None of these triggered ME symptoms or caused me any long term problems and I was absolutely fine. After the last Hep B jab within a week I became suddenly very ill, was in bed most of the day and struggled with basic daily tasks. I had blood test, which all came back negative, so I knew this was a relapse. It took me 6 years to get back to a good level where I can actually have a fairly normal life, but never as good as when I was in remission.

I think that this idea that Hep B vaccines can cause relapses or even onset of ME should be explored and the mechanism could even help scientist to understand how this illness works and how to treat it. In the early 00s my specialist told me not to have any vaccinations as they could make me worse. He saw many patients with ME and helped them improve so I am sure he knew what he was talking about. Also there appears to be a disproportional amount of ME patients who worked in medicine or teaching before they got ill, showing a possible vaccination link and in the case of teaching general infectious disease.

I had to read a short form about the side effects and risks of the vaccine before having it. If it had said that this can trigger ME relapses I would never have got it and would be working as a doctor by now.

Sorry just wanted to add a couple of things after taking another look at your post.

I also have a family and personal history of autoimmune disease, although as I was so young when I got ME I did not get the autoimmune diseases until a few years later. It is also interesting that you say the adjuvants can cause an autoimmune response. I have heard that CRP (an inflammatory marker) can be slightly raised in ME and many theorise that inflammation has a strong involvement in the illness. I had constant headaches, which I found were relieved by anti-inflammatories instead of other more common drugs.
